This list details the new or changed capabilities and features of CAESAR II 2011 R1 (Version 5.31).
Introduced Advanced PCF (APCF) into the Piping Input processor -- a faster, interactive, on-demand, and flexible
PCF import. This import allows you to quickly import the model from design software such as Intergraphs Smart
Plant 3D, saving time while reducing errors.
Updated the CAESAR II data export to ODBC (MS Access) to facilitate round-tripping of results to Smart Plant 3D
and Smart Plant Review.

The B31.9 piping code has been added, for Building Services piping.
The following piping codes have been revised: RCCM-C, RCCM-D, ASME-NC, ASME-ND, GPTC/Z380, Z662, B31.1,
B31.3, EN-13480 (2010 Draft).
One of the more significant Code changes here is that B31.3 now requires that the pressure stiffening effect on
bends be computed using the Pressure and Modulus of the specific load case.
CAESAR II continues to default to use of the maximum pressure (out of P1-P9, excluding Hydro Pressure) and EC.
Other options may be chosen (on a What-if? basis) in the Bend SIF Scratchpad:
Pressure/Modulus Options may be applied to individual load cases in the Load Case Options tab of the Static
Load Case Builder:
The Miscellaneous Report now displays the possible range of SIF/Flexibility Factors based on the potential
Pressure/Modulus selections:
Individual Load Case stress reports display the actual SIF used in that Load Case.
An Equipment Nozzle Limit Check has been added, which can be used to do a simple in-line check of developed
loads at any boundary condition against a set of allowable loads. Equipment Nozzle Limit Checks can only be
specified at a point where a restraint, imposed displacement, or nozzle flexibility is also specified.
Absolute: The Nozzle Check report flags this node if ANY developed force or moment exceeds
its corresponding allowable limit.
SRSS: The Nozzle Check report flags this node if either the forces or the moments exceed an
SRSS interaction formula:

where f, m represent developed loads and F, M represent allowable loads
Unity Check: The Nozzle Check report flags this node if either the forces or the moments
exceed a linear interaction formula:
B - the axis defined by the Ref Vector coordinates (this must be defined, and should be
perpendicular to Axis A) this often represents the centerline of the equipment, the line of action
of a restraint, etc.
Load Limits are entered in terms of these axes. Loads will not be checked against any limits that are unspecified
(or entered as 0).
Often used Load Limits may saved in text files (with extension .EQL) to be read in automatically by CAESAR II.
The format should adhere to the following:
-- Following lines should list the following information: ANSI/English nominal pipe size, DIN/Metric nominal pipe
size, load limits FA, FB, FC, MA, MB, and MC. CAESAR II will automatically select the correct values based
on the nominal diameter of the piping element.
A few sample .EQL files have been provided with the program as templates for developing ones own EQL
files. They are API-610.EQL (which contains allowable TOP, SIDE, and END pump nozzle loads from API-610s
Table 4, AS120.EQL (which contains suggested nozzle loads on a pressure rating basis from the AS1210 Code),
and VESSEL.EQL (which were have been suggested in a paper entitled "Consideration of Nozzle Loads on
Vessels in Process Plants").
Nozzle Limit Checks are represented graphically by red/white arrows along the defined Reference (B) Axes. For
this model, in which limit checks were defined at one vessel nozzle, at two pump TOP nozzles, and at one
restraint, the graphics appears as follows:
The Nozzle Check Report highlights those locations that exceed the allowable loads (as per the specified
comparison method). Loads at those locations most likely will require further review.
Elements and model segments can be graphically resized by selecting and moving nodes. This facilitates quick
changes such as resizing loops and sliding supports down a run
Next, click on one of the selected nodes, and either 1) type in the 3D dimensions (in X,Y,Z format) by which to
move the nodes, or 2) drag the nodes with a mouse. If the latter method is chosen, success is more likely to be
achieved by locking the drag along either the X-, Y-, or Z-axes using one of the three icons to the right of the
Resize Geometry icon.
Moving a support involves selecting a single node:
Line Numbers may be reviewed and organized using the Line Number Pallette (Accessible from the Line
Numbers toolbar icon):
Line Numbers may be assigned graphically by selecting piping elements and clicking the Create from Selection
button on the Line Number Pallette:
Line Numbers may be selected (clicking on the line number selects its included elements), renamed, colored
(using the button), or expanded into their included elements by using the Line Number Pallette:
Visibility of Line Numbers (or individual elements) may be toggled using the checkbox:
Elements can also be dragged from one Line Number to another on the Line Number Palette.
API-650 nozzle displacement values automatically included in the model. Different conditions (perhaps fluid
heights) can be evaluated and directed to different displacement vectors (but repeating the error check process
with different input parameters).
Optional spring hanger hardware weight can be specified when the weight of the support hardware between the
pipe and the spring is significant. The hardware weight will be included when sizing and selecting the spring, but
will not be included in the load acting on the pipe.
Insulation additions (cladding & refractory specifications) and/or the ability to specify insulation as a weight per
length as an alternative to thickness and density (however if known, insulation thickness should still be included
for calculating wind exposure diameter).
Improved interface from Intergraph SmartPlant/Marine3Ds PCF interface. PCF files should be generated using
Smart3Ds ISO_Stress configuration:
These should then be processed using CAESAR IIs Intergraph Smart3D PCF interface.
The following additional data will now be sent from Smart3D and processed by CAESAR II (if available):
Wall thickness
Temperature Case 1
Pressure Case 1
Hydro Pressure
Material (make sure that the CAESAR II database matches the Smart3D naming convention)
Insulation thickness and density
Fluid density
Component weights
Absolute coordinates
Bend radii
Partial restraint data
etc.
Systems imported from PCF files are assigned Line Numbers that have the name of the PCF file.
Static output menu shows visually which load cases have passed or failed.
Additional flexibility with user material databases through user named files.
The Static Output filter permits the exclusion of bi-linear (typically appearing as soil restraints) from the reports.
Key strokes can be reassigned or added.
