and industry, community groups, and colleges and
universities that want to provide our students with

Our students are prepared for the future. Our graduates
received $97 million in college scholarships and students
earned more than 11,000 career credentials.

School choice starts with us in Mobile County Public Schools.
As Alabamas largest school system, we offer more choices
than our students and parents could ever imagine.
That includes our Signature Academies, which are now
available in all 12 high schools. These academies are
receiving statewide and national recognition because they
provide hands-on learning opportunities that prepare
students for college or careers that are readily available in
Mobile County.
Our myriad of choices start with pre-kindergarten and
extend through the 12th grade. We have integrated
technology throughout the district in programs ranging from
credit recovery to computer coding, 3D design and printing,
and robotics. We offer dozens of Advanced Placement
courses, including English, history, advanced math and
science, studio art and foreign languages.
Public education started with us when we opened Alabamas
first public school in 1836. We continue to be a leader in the
state with our innovative programs and the choices we offer.

Signature Academies
Students can apply for enrollment in any
of our 12 high schools, based on their
interests and career aspirations. Our
Signature Academies are: Aerospace
and Aviation at B.C. Rain; Health at
Blount; Teaching and Learning at Mary G.
Montgomery; Industry, Manufacturing
and Technology at Citronelle; Coastal
Studies at Bryant; International Studies
at Murphy; Maritime, Engineering
and Entrepreneurship at Williamson;
Engineering and Industry at Theodore;
Engineering at Davidson; Advanced
Studies at Baker; Technology at Vigor;
and Pre-Law and Health at LeFlore.
Magnet Schools
We have three magnet elementary
schools that feed into three magnet
middle schools. Council and Phillips offer
college preparatory classes; Eichold-
Mertz and Clark-Shaw specialize in math,
science and technology; and Old Shell
Road and Dunbar give students unique
training in performing arts.
International Baccalaureate
We offer pre-International Baccalaureate
programs at Council and Phillips and
International Baccalaureate at Murphy
and Davidson.
Mobile County Public Schools recognizes that there is no
Blue Ribbon Schools
Thirteen Mobile County public schools
have been recognized with the U.S.
Department of Educations highest
designation for public and private
schools: The Blue Ribbon. They are:
Austin, Booth, Calcedeaver, Council,
Dodge, Hall, Old Shell Road and Spencer
elementary schools; Clark-Shaw Magnet
and Phillips Preparatory middle schools;
and Davidson, Murphy and Vigor high
schools.
College Credit
Mobile County is breaking new ground
in Alabama by providing our students
with opportunities to earn college credit
while still in high school. We have a one-
of-a-kind partnership with the University
of Alabama, which operates its Early
College at the new Murphy University
Center. We have Alabamas first-ever
Cambridge International School at
Bryant. And Baker High is one of only
four schools in the state to be named
AP Capstone Schools, offering unique
Advanced Placement courses.
Special Schools
Mobile County has two stand-alone
special-education schools: Augusta Evans
and the Southwest Alabama Regional
School for the Deaf and Blind.
Pre-Kindergarten
Twenty-seven of our elementary schools
offer pre-kindergarten. We operate
the national-award-winning Just 4
Developmental Lab, which serves 350
students ages 3 and 4.
Virtual Academy
Mobile County opened Alabamas first
6th through 12th grade online school in
2014. Envision Virtual Academy enrolls
more than 250 students.
Torchbearers
Mobile County has the lions share of
Alabamas Torchbearer schools, with 15
being designated as such since 2009.
These high-performing schools are:
Booth, Brazier, Calcedeaver, Collins-
Rhodes, Dixon, Hall, Holloway, Indian
Springs, Gilliard, Morningside, Orchard,
Robbins, St. Elmo, Spencer-Westlawn
and Wilmer elementary schools.
Schools of Innovation
Forty Mobile County schools are Schools
of Innovation that are changing the way
students learn and teachers teach. These
schools are focusing in areas ranging
from technology to project-based
learning.
