HIV can lead to AIDS Attacks body's immune system especially T cells, (helps immune system fight off infections) If not treated, it reduces number of T4 cells, making the person more likely to get infections Only way to know if you have it, is to get tested Causes Viral infection can be transmitted through:
- sexual contact
- blood transfusion
- sharing needles
- during pregnancy or breastfeeding
CANT be infected through contact: hugging, shaking
several weeks. This is early stage so it may not show up right away on test. But these people are highly infectious. How do you get it? HIV is not inherited. It is acquired.
The transmission rates have gone up 12% since 2008.
Almost 1 in 6 people are living with HIV and dont know about it. PCR diagnosis The infection is identified by detection of HIV antibodies in a serum or plasma. Another way, is a demonstration of a presence of the virus by nucleic acid detection using PCR. Treatment Supposedly there is no cure for HIV/AIDS but you can take pills to control it. It can also slow down the diseases progress.
