Cabin luggage: Guide to hand baggage sizes

and weight restrictions
Sunday, 26 March 2017

Laura Gavin
Writer

Here's all the info you need on cabin luggage sizes and weight allowances on major
European airlines for short-haul flights to Europe with major airlines including BA,
Ryanair, easyJet and Lufthansa.

According to our recent survey*, 82% of UK air passengers want all airlines to have the
same cabin bag allowance. But the size and weight restrictions on hand luggage often
varies between airlines, despite attempts to standardise cabin bag requirements by the
International Air Transportation Association (IATA). That's not to mention the question of
whether your handbag or laptop case counts as extra! So, how big is too big?

Compare cabin baggage restrictions with our table below, and save yourself a whole lot of
baggage stress when boarding!

Check the baggage size list, probably need to look carefully as there seems to be an
error, the red denotes real problems re size and/or weight, the orange seems to be
'be careful' check first.

Is all cabin baggage free as long as it matches the requirements
Reply Share

Skyscanner Mod > Misty Roberts 2 days ago

Hi Misty - each airline has dierent pricing options, but generally, if you meet
their size and weight requirements then you can fly with hand luggage for
free. If you're still in doubt then check with the airline you're planning to fly
with. Hope this helps! ^Cat

What do the airlines class as "personal item"?? Camera bag??
Reply Share

Skyscanner Mod > Oliver Cutler 12 days ago

Hi Oliver - 'personal items' usual means a hand bag. I believe a camera bag
may be included int hat, but expect it to be searched at security. You're
better o checking with the airline you're planning to fly with just to sure.
Thanks ^Cat
