1. In a pin jointed four bar mechanism, as shown in fig. AB= 300 mm, BC=CD= 360 mm and AD=
600mm. The angle BAD=60 degree. The crank AB rotates uniformly at 100 rpm. Locate all the
instantaneous centers and find the angular velocity of the link BC.
2. Locate all the instantaneous centres of the slider crank mechanismas shown in the figure . The
lengths of crank OB and connecting rod AB are 100 mm and 400 mm respectively. If the crank
rotates clockwise with angular velocity of 10 rad/s, find 1. Velocity of the slider A and 2. Angular
velocity of the connecting rod AB.

3. A mechanism as shown in figure has the following dimensions. OA = 200 mm, AB = 1.5m, BC=
600mm, CD= 500 mm and BE = 400 mm. Locate all the instantaneous centres. If crank OA rotates
uniformly at 120 rpm clockwise, find 1. The velocity of BC and D, 2. The angular velocity of the links
AB, BC and CD.

4. The mechanism of a wrapping machine, as shown in figure has the following dimensions. OA=100
mm. AC=700mm, BC= 200 mm, O3C= 200 mm and BD =150 mm.
The crank rotates at a unform speed of 100 rad/s . Find the velocity of the point E of the vell crank
lever by instantaneous center method.
5. Locate all the instantaneous centres for the crossed four bar mechanism as shown in Fig. . The
dimensions of various links are : CD = 65 mm; CA = 60 mm , DB = 80 mm ; and AB =55 mm. Find the
angular velocities of the links AB and DB, if the crank CA rotates at 100 r.p.m. in the anticlockwise
direction.

6. Locate all the instantaneous centres of the mechanism as shown in Fig. The lengths of various links
are : AB . 150 mm ; BC = 300 mm ; CD 225 mm ; and CE = 500 mm. When the crank AB rotates in
the anticlockwise direction at a uniform speed of 240 r.p.m. ; find I. Velocity of the slider E, and 2.
Angular velocity of the links BC and CE.

7. What do you understand by the instantaneous centre of rotation (centro) in kinematic of

machines? Answer briefly.
8. Explain, with the help of a neat sketch, the space centrode and body centrode
9. Explain with sketch the instantaneous centre method for determination of velocities of links and
mechanisms
10. Discuss the three types of instantaneous centres for a mechanism.
11. State and prove the 'Aronhold Kennedy's Theorem' of three instantaneous centres.
12. A mechanism of a crank and slotted lever quick return motion is shown in Fig. . If the crank rotates
counter clockwise at 120 rp.m., determine for the configuration shown, the velocity and
acceleration of the ram D. Also determine the angular acceleration of the slotted lever. Crank, AB =
150 mm ; Slotted arm, OC = 700 mm and link CD = 200 mm.

13. The driving crank AB of the quick-return mechanism, as shown in Fig. . revolves at a uniform speed
of 200 r.p.m. Find the velocity and acceleration of the tool-box R, in the position shown, when the
