Back to School, Not Slavery.

Public Urged to Attend Campaign Rally To Renew Commitment to End Commercial
Sexual Exploitation of Children in Missouri

COLUMBIA, Missouri, 20, July, 2015 Design That Heals (DTH) and Kaldi Coffee have joined
together to host an event to help Missouri anti-trafficking organizations stir up renewed action
against the commercial sexual exploitation of children during the back to school season. The
event is free and will be held at Kaldi Coffee on South 9th Street near Mizzou campus on August
25th, 2015. It will feature music by local musicians, brief presentations from featured
organizations, an exhibition and ongoing sale of art produced by local artists, jewelry made by
Night Light Designs, and lots of coffee! All proceeds from artists and Kaldi Coffee will go to help
fund anti-trafficking efforts.

We want parents and kids to attend and do three things:

1. Sign a petition for the renewal of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.
2. Help raise money to support Missouri organizations fighting to end sex trafficking.
3. Commit to a lifestyle of awareness - parents and children alike.

If you are not an alert and involved parent, your son or daughter will be at high-risk for
becoming the next trafficking victim. Children who do not have parents actively involved in their
lives will become likely targets for traffickers who search for victims online.
(Casey Alvarez, director of GO:61, speaking on the vulnerability of children to sexual predators and exploitation.
GO:61 is an organization in Missouri offering services to people who live in exploited and oppressed situations.)

While children all over Missouri head back to school, other children will never see a classroom.
Every 30 seconds a child is sold or abducted into labor or sex slavery.
An estimated 2 million children are exploited in the commercial sex industry worldwide.
The average age at which a girl is first exploited in the commercial sex industry in the U.S. is 12-14.
1% of victims are ever reported or rescued.
Despite the rise in awareness over the past seven years human trafficking continues to be the fastest grow-
ing criminal industry in the world. To learn more or to sign the online petition visit www.DTH.com.
