The Professional Skills and Abilities of Effective Teachers become the main topic

in the Chapter 11 of Act of Teaching. There are seven teaching skills in Helping

Students Learn. First, Establishing set focus on creating anticipatory strategies in

starting the class. Second, using variety is important to meet all the need of a diverse

classroom. Third, using instructional time effectively values the capability of the

teacher to be flexible and creative in handling the allotted time for every class.

Fourth, conducting interactive question stretches the relationship of student and

teacher inside the classroom because questions could bring answers to make them

attach from one another. Fifth, providing clear instruction is important so student

could meet the expected accomplishment they could have in the classroom. Sixth,

monitoring students progress is an accountability of a teacher to watch them out of

their improvements and difficulties in order to assist their needs in the exact time.

Lastly, providing feedback and reinforcement comes after monitoring the student

because you provide solution and evaluation to a student so they could grow in

learning.

In the classroom, teacher is set as Jesus model. Back on Teaching Redemptively,

teachers are set to be king, priest and shepherd.

A kingly role signifies authority to teacher. They are in authority to start and

initiate the class, manage the time and provide instruction. This are one of the tasks

as a leader inside the classroom. And teachers are the first leader. They should be

aware of how they will start the class because that will give impression to the

student of who she/he as a teacher. Moreover the capability of the teacher to lead

the whole duration not only from the beginning but up to the end, needs wise
handling of time. Then, when you can handle the beginning and the entire class, your

task to give clear instruction to them relies on how they could cooperate on you.

Next, Priestly role mediates to students. In the old testament a priest is in task

to be the mediator of a sinful to God. And when Jesus arrived he became the Highest

priest. A teacher as a priest needs to be knowledgeable of using varieties in the

classroom and interact with questions. In order to communicate and mediate with

them so they would reach the trues task of education and the truth in Gods word,

teacher has to assist their needs in differently. Students are different. They have

different skills, personalities and problems. Having one strategy in handling them

could only meet one need in the classroom. However having varieties of it could

mediate not only one to student but to the majority of them. Also, answering and

interacting to their question makes them comfortable and make yourself

trustworthy to them. In order to attach with them, communication and relationship

is important. A person will not know how to help someone if they do not know each

other at all.

Finally, a shepherd guides her sheep. Teacher guides his/her students. It takes

monitoring and provide feedbacks and evaluation on them. Teacher has a part of

leading the student to their goals. When the teacher is not responsible enough,

he/she then does not perform the task given. A shepherd should make sure his/her

sheep does not go astray. Leading them to exact path either in a way of cheering

them up and rebuking them of their mistakes is important and should be in balance

approach so they may realize what they need to retain and improve.
