FACULTY OF ENGINEERING & APPLIED SCIENCES

Department of Electrical Engineering

Riphah International University, Sector I-14, Hajj Complex, Islamabad, Pakistan

Course Title: EE-346 Electromagnetic field theory

Prerequisite: GS-221 Multivariable Calculus
Faculty Engr. Jhanzeb
Designation: Lecturer
Email: jhanzeb@riphah.edu.pk

Course Objective:
The subject Electromagnetic field theory is the most fundamental subject in the curriculum of
electrical engineering education. Electromagnetic field theory defines capacitors, inductors and
resistors in terms of its primary electric and magnetic quantities like electric charge, electric
potential, electric current, electric and magnetic flux. Electromagnetics explains universal
concepts in three-dimension real world, i.e., electro-magnetic wave propagation in free-space.

After this course, students will be able to:

CLO 1:
Describe laws and principles of electromagnetic fields. (C2)

CLO 2:
Compute mathematical problems related to electromagnetic fields. (C3)

EE-346 ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD THEORY (3+0):

Introduction to vector analysis , Coulomb s Law and Applications, Electric field intensity , Gauss Law and
Applications , Energy and Potential .Conductors & Dielectrics , Capacitance Magnetic forces , Materials
and Inductances. Maxwells Equations in Integral Form, In Point Form, Displacement Current Uniform
Plane waves, lossless medium, Lossy medium, Good Conductors, Polarization, Pointing Vector,
Reflection and Refraction of Plane Waves, Normal Incidence, Oblique Incidence, Transmission lines,
Smith Chart, Impedance Matching.

Matlab might be used as part of assignment work.
