 METHOD STATEMENT FOR BACKFILLING WORKS

1. General
This method statement covers the procedure for the backfill around
structures, backfill of pipes, building, etc.

2. Material & Equipment

a. Excavator 0.4 m 3 to 0.7 m 3 capacity for backfill material
b. Dump truck for transportation of backfill material
0. Hand stamper and baby roller for compaction
a. Water & spraying equipment

Selected material (materials previously excavated at the site)
Imported material (borrowed materials from around power plant

3. Sequence of Work
Backfilling around structures
Prior to starting backfilling all surface/subgrade of structures has to be
inspected to determine that concrete has cured sufficiently to achieve
specified compressive strength, the forms removed, the excavation
cleaned of trash, debris and water.

Backfilling of general site

Backfill material shall be selected material resulted from excavation or
imported soil from around power plant quarry (nearby project site).
Backfill material shall be placed in uniform layers not over than 300 mm
(loose measure). Material shall contain no wood, grass, roots, broken
concrete, stones, trash or debris of any kind. Compaction shall be done

 using hand operated power tampers for inaccessible area and vibratory
roller for large area (accessible area).

Backfill of Trench
Materials shall be approved fill materials either from the site excavation or
the off-site sources. Sand material shall be no more than 10% passing No.
200 screen, maximum particle size No. 4.

Fill in the excavated trenches shall be placed in layers and method of

placement of the fill shall be approved by owner.

Prior to the start of the fill placement, the bidder shall submit a statement
describing in greater detail his proposed method of fill placement in the
excavated trenches area for the owners approval.

4. Safety and Hazard Identification and Risk Analysis

The safety and hazard identification and risk analysis for structural back fill can
be seen in Appendix 1 (shall be presented during construction stage).

5. Inspection Form

Inspection form for structural backfill can be seen in Appendix 2 (shall be

presented during construction stage).
