Fluid Diversion (StimproPT, 2014)

1. Calculation of Diversion

Diverters are creating a filtercake on the sandface. This filtercake is a thin layer of small
permeability.
The filtercake imposes and additional pressure drop (i.e. skin) on the part of the well where
it is present.
For each fluid the fraction of non-loosable fluid is calculated based on the wallbuilding
coefficient. The total amount of the fluid times this fraction determines the filtercake volume.
The fraction of diverter lost into the formation may enhance the existing wormholes further if
acid is chosen as the carrier fluid.
Depending on the type of filtercake subsequent fluid stages may destroy the existing
filtercake. This can be molded by specifying a negative wallbuilding coefficient for these
fluids.

Diversion Selection

If a well has open intervals (or production zones) with a non-uniform distribution of permeability or
skin factor, a diversion technique is necessary to equally treat all the intervals (or zones). The
Diversion Selection group will help you make the decision. In this group, you have two options.

You can view or change the selected fluids on the Fluid Design - F5 screen.

Selection

Stimpro Defined: If this is selected, Stimpro will make a decision (whether a diversion
technique is needed) and will determine how many diversion stages and what kind of
diverter is needed if a diversion technique is necessary.

User Defined: If this is selected, you need to enter the number of diversion stages and select
a diverter.

Run Stimpro Design: When all information is entered, you can click this button to run the
treatment design program. When this step is done, clicking Continue will take you back to
the Treatment Schedule - F6 screen, Design Treatment Schedule tab, which has been filled
with the generated treatment schedule.
