Cross-Curricular Competencies:
Developing literacies: students will learn how to understand and use a part of grammar
that they have been missing. This will increase their comprehension when reading
French texts that uses the subjunctive tense.

The thumbs up/thumbs down game determining if the sentence should use the
subjunctive or indicative
Assessment OF Learning (summative) Assess the students after learning to evaluate
what they have learned.
The class will begin by having the students listen to the song Tu maimes quand mme
by Nicola Ciccone. We will then examine the lyrics to see in which instances the
subjunctive was used (emphasising how it is used after the word que), how the
subjunctive looks, and an introduction on how to conjugate it.
Main Procedures/Strategies:
I will explain to the students how the subjunctive tense works in English. The focus will
be on how English does not have a specific subjunctive ending, but we use the base
form of the verb in certain situations such as demands or wishes.

We will end the lesson by reexamining the song, looking to see which rule applies to
each use of the subjunctive.
Personal Reflection:
Avec certains verbes vous employez toujours le subjonctif dans la forme ngative (mais
pas le positif!). Dans cette case, vous exprimez une opinion sur quelque chose :
Ne pas penser que (Je ne pense pas que ce soit un bonne ide)
Ne pas croire que (Je ne crois pas quil puisse le faire)
Ne pas trouver que (Je ne trouve pas quelle soit trs motive)

Avec les verbes suivis de dire ou esprer vous nemployez pas le subjonctif

Jespre que vous aimez mon chum (indicatif)
Le subjonctif existe dans le prsent, le pass, limparfait, et le plus que parfait mais pas le
futur. Alors nutilisez pas aprs ds que
Ds que jarriverai je mangerai une baguette (indicatif)
Ces verbes utilisent lindicatif : dire, affirmer, prvoir, penser, croire, esprer, tre
certain, imaginer, tre probable

Verbes qui se termine avec -er (comme rire ou crier) ont deux i aux personnes nous
et vous :
