Introduction:
1. Hook:AskstudentswhatmakesHarryPotteragoodfriendtoRonandHermione
(wehavebeenreadingHarryPottertogetherasaclass).Haveadiscussionabout
thefriendshipbetweenthetrio,andifanyoneintheclasshasanysimilarstories
toshare.Remindstudentsnottouserealnames.

2. Passoutthefriendshipworksheetsandgothroughthequestionswiththestudents
tomakesuretheyunderstandthem.Asstudentsworkontheworksheets
(individually,yettheycandiscussthequestionswiththeirpeers),circulatearound
theclassroomtoscaffoldasneeded.
3. Oncestudentshavefinishedtheworksheets,collectthemandthenpassoutthe
featherstencils.Explaintothestudentsthattheclassisgoingtobecreatinga
friendshippostertodisplayinthehallway,andthateveryonewillhaveachance
tocontributebywritingafriendshiporkindnesswordonafeather.Thesefeathers
willbemadebytracingthestencilonconstructionpaper(thatisthesamecolour
astheirHogwartshouse)andcuttingitout,thenusingmarkerstowritetheword
oftheirchoice.TheGirlsClubwillbeinchargeofputtingeverythingtogetherat
alatertime.Makesuretocirculatearoundtheclassandscaffoldasneeded,as
wellastoremindstudentstobecarefulwhenwalkingwithscissors.
4. Collectallofthefeathersbeforepassingoutthefriendshipbookmarks.Explainto
thestudentsthat,withthefourbookmarksperpage,theywillcolourtheminand
addanyextradetailthattheydesire,thengluetwoofthemtogethersothatthey
endupwithtwodoublesidedbookmarks.Theycanthenchoosewhichonethey
willkeep,andwhichonetheywanttogivetoafriend.Thebookmarksthatthey
choosetogiveawaywillbeplacedinaboxandmixedup,andstudentswill
chooseabookmarkfromitatrandom.Thisensuresthateverystudentgetsa
bookmarkfromtheirpeers.

5. Onceeveryonehaschosenabookmark,pulltheclassbacktogetherandreview
whatwasontheworksheet,aswellasanyadditionaltopicsthatmayhavecome
upwhilestudentswereworkingontheirfeathersand/orbookmarks.Havea
discussionabouttheimportanceoffriendship,howonecouldbeabetterfriend,
andwhatmakesagoodfriend.

Formativeevaluation
Formativeevaluationwillbebasedonstudentsparticipationinthediscussion,as
wellastheircompletionoftheworksheets,feathers,andbookmarks.Studentswill
alsobeformativelyevaluatedontheirabilitytoempathizewithothers.
DifferentiationandInclusion
finish any incomplete class work that they have yet to finish.
Students whose IEPs call for more time shall receive it.
Any and all other accommodations and/or modifications will be made according
to students IEPs.
Students who are really having trouble with the questions will be walked through
MyReflectionsontheLesson
