Romax Technology:
Romax Technology is a worldwide supplier of coordinated programming and
administrations for gearbox, orientation and driveline frameworks for Automotive,
Aerospace, Off-Road, Rail, Bearings, Marine and Wind Energy. The most recent
advancement of RomaxDESIGNER R17 bearing innovation sees the arrival of another
'Improved Roller Contact' display intended to give unrivaled precision, power and
investigation speed especially under outrageous load conditions. This new technology
will provide bearing suppliers and sector OEMs an in-depth insight into bearing
performance and potential issues.
Key features
- New approach to bearing contact analysis
- Accurate, validated prediction of stresses due to edge contact
- Includes consideration of material strength
- Multi-threaded for the fastest possible run times
- Compatible with manufacturers proprietary (encrypted), Romax bearing data
catalogues for inclusion of detailed bearing geometry
- Implemented for all roller bearing types
- Compatible with ISO TS 16281
- Works for rigid and flexible bearings
- Accurately calculated Cu ratings
Major customer are Hyundai WIA, Mazda Corporation, GKN Driveline and
Volkswagen AG

Introduction:
Bearing are a key aspect of drivetrain design and analysis

Romax is at the forefront of bearing technology and has continuously developed an industry leading
bearing analysis methodology which incorporates:
- Fully coupled driveline flexibility to calculate loads and misalignments
- State of the art 6 DOF mom linear bearing models
- Advanced analytical farique life methods
- Preload, thermal expansion and fir
- Flexible bearing raceaways

Practical test on making bearing selection:

1.Bearing 2.Level of details (how

3. Level of details (how 4. When to seek bearing

- Test 1 is about changing the gear stage 4 from 23 deg helix angle to 29 deg
helix angle to increase the gear face contact ratio. The results show that
increasing in contact ratio of gear face will give a good for TE reduction and
NVH improvements but increased the thrust force which is not good for gear
life. Thus, alternate bearing solution must be found for the location where
thrust force increased.
- Test 2 is to determine when a flexible bearing model required. From the results
obtained, local raceway distortions from the bolted joint affect the raceway
stress and the ratings, so a flexible bearing approach would be recommended.
The problem face in test 2 are time and cost required for the analysis using the
software.
- Test 3 is to decide on when to use FE models of surrounding geometry and how
to decide what level of fidelity to be used. At the end of the test, it can be
concluded that 3D mesh make a big difference compared to a Timoshenko
shaft. Thats mean detailed FE and flexible bearing were not important for the
bearings. But for the final drive gear, 3D effects would be very important.
- Test 4 will lead on how to identify the need of roller and raceway micro
geometry. Rating calculations results was based on the performance effects for
micro-geometry used by a supplier. Sometimes it is hard to get hold of
information about what the raceway micro-geometry is, because it is
commercially sensitive. Within the software there is the ability to create great
appraisals of raceway geometry. Another solution is by using the proprietary
function. The encrypted models with correct rating results without reveal the
internal geometry can be provided by bearing suppliers which have the
software.

Conclusion:

The new model is fast enough to be enabled by default and is applicable to

virtually all aspects of bearing analysis in RomaxDESIGNER. It is particularly
suitable to analysing edge stresses under extreme loads or misalignments and is
capable of predicting issues which other solutions are likely to miss.
Romax technology application is very useful which can create layout in seconds,
very flexible where all major transmission types covered and can links all major
CAD packages:
- Make Reductions - Cut design time by 60% and reduce analysis time by over
80%
- Total Solution - NVH, efficiency and durability simulation and analysis
- One System - Considers all component misalignments and interactions
- Full Integration - We embed, integrate and interface with your existing software
tools
