to each circuit of the processing unit, panel unit, and display unit.
The input voltage range is from +10.8VDC to +42V.

1) Auxiliary power supply circuit

The auxiliary power supply circuit generates a power supply for operating IC1
that controls a main converter and a voltage that is supplied to a power supply
switch circuit of a panel circuit.
The circuit outputs a stabilized voltage of about 11V from a ship's main power
supply (referred to as a primary power supply henceforth) by amplifying the
current through transistors TR1 and TR2, using CD2 constant voltage diode.
The auxiliary power supply is output between P12V and P12VE.

2) Input voltage protection circuit

The input voltage protection circuit stops operation of a main converter circuit
when the voltage drops to +7V or lower disabling operation of control IC1, or
the maximum input voltage exceeds +42V. In practice, when the primary
power supply voltage reaches +8V or lower, or +45V or higher, the input voltage
protection circuit sets TR3 to ON and stops the main converter by controlling
the power supply switch circuit of the panel circuit.

3) Main converter circuit

The main converter circuit is controlled by control IC1.
The primary power supply is switched by FET transistor 2SK2401 and
generates a secondary voltage on the secondary side through converter
transformer T1.
This circuit generates voltages +13V (2.5AMAX), +3.3V (1.0A), +5V (1.0A), and

28
-5V (0.3A) and the +13V output is set within the range of 0.05V by adjusting
volume RV1 +13VADJ.
The switching frequency is controlled at 70KHz by power supply oscillation IC
(IC1) and output voltage stabilization is controlled by detecting (IC7) +13V.
Among the four power supply modes, stabilized voltage +5V is obtained by
inputting secondary voltage 7V of the converter to IC8. Stabilized voltage
+3.3V is obtained by inputting +5V to IC2.
A self-recovery fuse is inserted in each of display power supply +13V
(LCD+12V), GPS receiver +13V, and option NSK unit power supply +5V to
protect the operation of the converter power supply unit itself from a failure in
any of these devices.

4) Antenna power supply control circuit

The primary power is supplied to an antenna. The ON/OFF setting of the
power supply relay (K1) that supplies power to an antenna is controlled by the
secondary power supply output of +13V that is described above.
When the relay is set to ON, the ship's main power is supplied to an antenna via
fuses F2 and F3.

5) Serial communication interface circuit

Five serial communication interfaces are available, an antenna interface, a GPS
interface, a gyro interface, a PC interface, and a panel interface.
The power supply terminal block circuit simply converts signals from external
devices to signals such as TTL. Actual signal generation is discussed in the
description of the main control circuit.

Antenna interface
This interface controls antennas by communication from the processing unit.
This signal sends and receives signals through a J2 (14 pins) connector.
This interface applies a RS-485 format and asynchronous communication of
9600bps. In this exclusive communication mode, time sharing
communication is performed by sending uplink data, which is a control signal,
from the processing unit at every 100ms. As soon as the signal is received
through the antenna interface, downlink data is sent to the processing unit.

29
GPS interface
This interface sends and receives data to and from a GPS receiver and sends
and receives to and from a J3 connector (5 pins) through the interface that
receives data from another NMEA device.
The interface specification applies a RS-422 format and asynchronous
communication of 4800bps. The cable with a connector of a device such as
GPS receiver DGPS212 of Japan Radio Co., Ltd. (JRC) can be directly
connected to a J3 connector.
By using a reserve plug, data from NMEA devices including other
manufacturers devices can be input.

Gyro interface
This interface receives, through a J5 connector (5 pins), NMEA0183 (HDM)
signals from a magnetic compass, NMEA0183 (HDT) signals from JLR-10 of
JRC, and azimuth signals such as high-speed JRC format signals sent from
an optional NCT-4106 gyro interface unit.
The interface applies a RS-422 format and asynchronous communication of
4800bps for NMEA0183 signals and 9600bps high-speed communication for
JRC format signals.
GPS compass JLR-10 of JRC and optional NCT-4106 can be directly
connected using a dedicated cable. By using a reserve plug, magnetic
compasses of other manufacturers can be connected. During reception of
magnetic compass data (HDM), motion control such as TRUE MOTION can be
performed, however, the MARPA unit cannot be operated.

PC interface
The PC interface can output NMEA0183 data to a PC plotter.
This signal is output from a J8 DSUB connector and the device can be directly
connected to a PC plotter using a RS-232C cable, which is commercially
available.
By switching the TB1 jumper of the power supply module, it is possible to
select RS-232C signal output for personal computers or RS-422 signal output
for other NMEA devices.

Panel interface
This interface is used for data transmission and reception between a panel
unit and RS-422, at a transfer rate of 4800bps.

30
Video interface
Power supply of 13V is output from J6 (3 pins) to connect 10-inch LCD unit
NWZ-146 for JMA-5100. VGA video signal is output from a J7 (15 pins) DSUB
connector. This signal is a standard VGA video signal of VESA and can also be
used by a monitor that is commercial available. Therefore, when two indication
modules such as for a cabin and an upper bridge are installed by purchasing a 2nd
panel that is sold separately, this output video signal can be distributed by a
distributor.

See below for the output signal format.

3.1.2 Description of Panel unit (NCE-7640)
Panel circuit (CCK-892)
This circuit, which is equipped with a microchip (IC1) that uses H8 CPU (manufactured by
Hitachi), sends the results of scanning of each knob setting and key operation status to
the CMC-1190 main control circuit in serial communication. RS422 interface is applied
for interfacing with the main control circuit in full-duplex communication at a transfer rate
of 4800bps.

The panel unit scans 25 keys (including 4 volumes and 1 encoder) at an interval of about
25 ms to recognize key statuses. Volume output voltages are sampled by the A/D
converter in IC1. The D/A converter in IC1 controls LED. For buzzer control, the
operation module outputs pulses of 50% duty using a timer in IC1 and changes the
buzzer sound by changing the frequency according to the function.

The power supply of this system is controlled by DFF (IC4) output PS. When power
supply is ON, +12V output is set and the power supply is OFF, 0V output is set. DFF
(IC4) can be reset by pressing the STBY and TX keys together and the power supply
setting can be changed from ON to OFF by 0V output.

3.1.3 Description of Display unit (NWZ-146)

This display unit is an indicator that uses 10.4-inch LCD. The display unit comprises the
following units:

3.2 Description of SCANNER UNIT

The Scanner unit comprises the following thee units.

Modulation Circuit (CME-322/CME-323)
Description of reception circuits (CA4-475 and CAE-475-1)

3.2.1 Description of Modulation Circuit (CME-322/CME-323)

The ship's main power is supplied via a display relay. The power supply is input to a
voltage reduction chopper circuit via the noise elimination filter (L1, and so on) of the input
module. This circuit output is controlled by a feedback circuit (IC3, and so on) and a PWM
control IC (IC1) to stabilize the voltage at about 7.5(V). Based on the stabilized power
supply, the following four types of voltages are generated by a push-pull converter (IC2, T1,
and so on).
+8V: Mainly for IF amplifier in the reception module, log amplifier, and front-end power
supply
+15(V): Mainly for a motor drive circuit
-7(V): Mainly for a magnetron heater voltage
+330(V) (JMA-5104), +365(V)(JMA-5106): Modulation voltage
A transmission pulse formation circuit (TR7, RV1, and so on) forms a pulse width (4 pulses)
through PW-1 to PW-33 that is supplied from the reception module. This pulse is amplified
by a pulse transformer (T2) and applied to the magnetron.

For JMA-5104, a stable antenna cycle is supplied by directly supplying +15(V) to a motor
through a 3-pin regulator (IC5). Power supply to the motor is turned on and off by the MCT
signal that is sent from the reception module.

For JMA-5106, a MCT pulse signal that is controlled by BP is supplied from the reception
module and a motor control drive circuit (TR19, 20) controls the motor power supply by
switching, thereby maintaining a stable cycle.

3.2.2 Description of reception circuits (CA4-475 and CAE-475-1)

The IF (60MHz) signals that are output from the front-end (E101) are classified into three
signal types at the output-end. Type <1> signals are input a small signal line, amplified by
IF amplifiers 1, 2, and 3 (TR3 to TR5, and so on) and input to a bandwidth selection circuit.
The signals pass through a band filter that is switched by a selection signal (BS1 to BS3)
supplied by CPU(IC4) and are input to a log amplifier (IC2 , IC3). Interstage filters (R129 and
C69) prevent final stage log output (IC3) being saturated by white noise in a log amplifier
only. Type <2> signals are input to a large signal line and the voltage is divided by a
voltage division circuit (R31, R35) to prevent the main stage from being saturated to the

33
front-end saturation level. The gain of the output is adjusted by the IF amplifier 4(TR6, and
so on) so that the joint with the small signal line becomes linear at log output after addition,
and the signal is input to a log amplifier.

The results of the small signal line and the large signal line are added by an addition circuit
(TR12, TR13, and so on) and are sent to a display as VD signals via a buffer circuit (TR14,
TR15, and so on.).

Type <3> signals are input to a tuning display circuit. The main bang ??? signal in the IF
signal whose voltage was divided by TUNE_L, and which is output from a D/A converter,
(IC11) is amplified by TR8. The band is restricted by the same center frequency as for the
small signal line by a band filter such as T4. The center frequency of the band filter can be
slightly adjusted by TUNE_F that is output from a D/A converter. The signal is detected by
TR9, regenerated as direct current of +5(V), processed as peak-hold mode by C63, CD18,
and so on and is input to an A/D converter in CPU as a tuning display signal TNI.

The D/A converter also outputs a front-end tuning voltage (TUNEV) and controls
transmission frequencies in the front-end.

As described above, in addition to the controls BS1 to BS3, D/A converter control and
tuning voltage control are performed by CPU (IC4) through serial communication with a
display using a transceiver (IC7, IC8).
