American Ski Federation 1985 1992, Director of Legislative and Public Affairs
Managed the ski industrys trade program saving $11 million annually in duty benefits by negotiating with
U.S. Trade Representative; International Trade Commission and U.S. Customs on import and export issues.
Successfully lobbied and drafted the National Forest Ski Area Permit Act of 1986; Wrote and edited
monthly Washington Letter to promote grassroots support and heighten awareness for environmental, labor
and ADA issues related to ski industry business interests.
Colorado Ski Country 1984-1986, Director of Governmental Affairs
Lobbied, researched and analyzed issues critical to the Colorado ski industry including tourism, utility reg-
ulation, ground and air transportation and the environment. Wrote testimony for public hearings and served
as an industry advocate on Colorado State committees and commissions, including the Denver Water
Board.
Northwest Colorado Council of Governments 1982-1984, Legislative Assistant
Assisted executive director of organization providing natural resource and social services to six counties
and 26 municipalities using federal, state and local funding.

CHILD ADVOCACY EXPERIENCE

Underage Use of Alcohol and Drug Issues 2011 2014


MCCPTAs Representative for Keeping it Safe, a working group for the prevention of underage drinking.
Successfully advocacy to gain emergency hearings at the Maryland State House for Montgomery County
Police Department: re sales of alcohol to underage youth.
Worked with 12 congregations Interfaith group advocating for revised school policy on alcohol and drugs.
School Food Advocacy 2006-2014
Advocated for increased use of fresh fruit and vegetables and locally sourced food for public school lunch-
es in Montgomery County and nationwide.
Worked with Congress to eliminate sugar in USDA school lunch commodities.
Assisted in drafting and passing the Jane Lawton Farm to School lunch bill, Maryland.
Advocated for issuance of the Montgomery Food in Schools Report.
Speaker at community and parent meetings; as well as author of articles and letters in support of improved
school food.
School Zone Pedestrian Safety 2006- 2014
Pedestrian Safety Chairperson, eight years at North Chevy Chase Elementary School Worked to increase
the safety of school children walking and riding bikes to school
Succeeded in getting Montgomery County to repair a blinking school-zone crossing sign after seven years
of non-use.
Devised and advocated for a removable cone-marking system to indicate intersections during school day
crossings.
Worked with the County to build pedestrian safety islands on Jones Bridge Road and improve signage
along Manor Road and Jones Bridge Road surrounding North Chevy Chase Elementary School.
