Introduction

One of the most important thing in a persons life is university education. The reason

being, it acts as a foundation for people preparing them for the workforce in a community.

People with university education are readied for work and will directly cause an impact to the

society when they start working. With this in mind, it can be argued that university courses

should be geared towards the economic needs of the society. However, my opinion is that

university courses should not be forced to fit the economic needs of the society.

The economic needs of every society are ever changing. The reason to these changes

are sometimes attributed to the natural calamities such as earthquakes, which may be hard to

predict (Mireles, 2015). By making it compulsory to regulate the university courses towards

the needs of the economy may cause constant change in the university courses, which is a

change that lecturers may find hard to keep up with (Mireles, 2015).

Another reason why I do not agree with the idea of regulating university courses

towards the economic needs of a society is that individuals possess the right to follow their

career desires (nikkiarief, 2015). They should not be forced to follow career paths that only

influence the society.

Lastly is that there is a greater chance of success to the people who study the careers

they find interest in. Forcing a student on a course that will benefit the society will be helpful

but the performances on the jobs will deteriorate since individuals will not have passion in

their work (nikkiarief, 2015).

Conclusion

University courses should not be directed only towards the economic need of the

society, as it will only have a short-term impact on the society. On the other hand, students

should be encouraged to undertake courses that interest them.
