Reflection on first MCT feedback

6th. March. 2017

The first lesson I have taught with my MCT Mentor College Teacher was about changing

shapes. It was a good lesson to teach, it was about the skills used for changing shapes and

students were able at the end of the class to understand the use of each skill through shaping play

doh. I thought of it as a good lesson, either my MCT because the procedure of the lesson went

well and the learning objective was achieved.

The strengths that my MCT has observed in my lesson were an excellent opening to the lesson

and a very good classroom management. Mr. Mark has commented on the effective planning for

the lesson as I have sent the lesson plan a 24 hours before the lesson where I organized my ideas,

thoughts and prepared my self to each part of the lesson. Furthermore, managing learning was

good with clear instructions and encouragements of student interactions. Excellent organizational

skills as a strength was reflected by ordering my materials, stuff and the classroom environment

beforehand. My MCT has given a strength comment on the organizational and management tasks

to students. Differentiation was applied well in the activities which was good to demonstrate

students learning.

Checking students work and interacting with them was applied. However, in my point of view I

think I should work on it more so I can check the whole class work through walking around the

classroom and give brief comments so everyone will have the chance to be talked with. The

classroom management strategies and instructions were clear enough and worked well in

controlling students such as: look, listen, then raising hands, gum machine, fingers on lips,
and using the bell. The reflection part at the end of the lesson has worked well and students

have reviewed and refocused the lesson and learning.

Areas of development part was exampled with two important points, the first one is about avoid

giving too many verbal instructions which may confused students. What I think I should work on

next class is to use some gestures and giving students the opportunity to do, this can help

kinesthetic leaners. The second point is to provide the classroom with more monitoring and

guidance through core part while students doing the activities. I think I should walk around

more, give each student a chance to discuss his/her answers by saying: what are you doing?, I

will come back to your group in a moment, and prizing good students such as saying: excellent,

and good job.
