Business Leadership Hawaii

A Pacific Business News event honoring the achievers in business excellence

Aloha,
As I approach my first year as publsiher of Pacific Business News, I feel the excitement as we
prepare for Business Leadership Hawaii 2010.

The nomination process is essential to the success of this business recognition program and it is
our hope that this guide helps to simplify that process while providing you with answers to your
questions.

The first step is to select the appropriate category or categories for your nominee. Carefully
Mary Beth Lohman review the questions that you need to respond to regarding the organization or individual being
Publisher
nominated. The BLH judges, some past winners and finalists of Business Leadership Hawaii, and
all respected Hawaii business leaders, specifically look for your responses to those questions to
cover the points accordingly.

Additionally, the required supporting letters are an important part of each nomination and provide
the judges with yet another view of your nominee. You want the letters to strenghthen and support
the key points answered in response to the questions.

The judges will select finalists in each category from the total pool of nominees
received. If you or your company becomes a finalist, you will need to participate in a brief
videotaped interview session on Oanu. These sessions will be held on September 20 and 21,
and each interview will take approximately 15 minutes on the day you choose. Companies are
typically represented by their CEO’s. More information will be provided to those who have been
selected as finalists.

One last point is that we encourage self-nominations and that we never reveal the names of the
nominators. We don’t even disclose this information to the judges. Also, individuals, companies and
nonprofits nominted but not selected as finalists are not publically disclosed.

For questions regarding the nomination process, please contact Doreen Tavares. If you would like
to review actual nominations from previous years, please email dtavares@bizjournals.com or call
955-8074. We’ll send you a CD and ask only that you treat the nomination in a confidential
manner.

We look forward to your participation this year, and hope to see you at the Business
Leadership Hawaii 2010 dinner and awards event on October 21 at the Sheraton Waikiki.

With aloha,
