INTRODUCTION
Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs), as members
of the healthcare team, are professionals who
perform laboratory analysis and provide information
to physicians which helps doctors to diagnose and
treat patients, as well as monitor and prevent
disease.
Medical Laboratory Technologists perform a variety
of sophisticated diagnostic procedures. They must
have good motor skills, hand-eye coordination and
manual dexterity. In addition to technical skills, they
are required to possess a strong attention to detail
to detect subtle changes in the microscopic
appearance of blood, tissue and microscopic
organisms. MLTs must also ensure the validity of
the results they obtain, which requires analytical and
critical thinking skill. MLTs work in an ever-evolving
environment, and on occasions need to adopt new
procedures in line with the rapid pace of change in
medical laboratory sciences as well as the changing
disease patterns.

PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
Courses involving theory and laboratory sessions
are held at UNISEL for the first two and a half
years running over 5 semesters. During semester
6 in Year 3 the students are given the opportunity
to undergo a clinical attachment in a hospital or a
private pathological laboratory to work under real
life clinical conditions.
Clinical Attachment
During the last semester at UNISEL, the
student will spend 16 weeks Clinical
attachment at a clinical laboratory. Students
apply the skills and knowledge gained on
campus to the day-to-day laboratory
environment. Then practical training cover
core disciplines in medical laboratory
including clinical biochemistry, haematology,
immuno-hematology, and microbiology, The
local preceptor who is usually the laboratory
manager or senior MLTs from the affiliate
laboratory will be responsible for student
learning.

INTRODUCTION
Physiotherapy is a health care profession that

PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
Students of this programme are expected to
complete this course in three years. It will be
conducted in six semesters. This programme
emphasizes in theoretical approach and practical
approach and will be conveyed in several
methods including classroom teaching, lecture
demo, practical session in skill lab and
gymnasium and also clinical visit to hospital and
physiotherapy / rehabilitation centre.
In the first year students will be taught mainly the
university subjects and basic subjects such as
human anatomy and physiology that act as a
fundamental to core subjects that will be taught at
second and third year.
The fundamental core subjects for this
programme are such as exercise therapy,
biomechanics and electrotherapy. Students will
also be taught on specific core subjects such as
musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory, neurology,
paediatric, geriatric, sport injury, community
health and women health that work to
complement the fundamental core subjects.

INTRODUCTION
Medical imaging is a discipline within the medical
field, which involves the use of technology to
produce images of the internal organs of the human
body to assist doctors with examination and
diagnosis. Images are created using painless
techniques without the need to cut open the body.
Medical imaging covers many disciplines and is
used by most areas of the healthcare sector. In
recent years the development of computer
technology, twinned with advances in 3D medical
imaging systems, has meant a growing use of new
and ever more advanced image reconstruction and
display. This program is designed to train young
students to fill-up jobs as radiographers in public
and private hospitals and health care centres. The
students will be trained by professionals from
UNISEL and hospitals to understand the theory
aspects and get hands-on-experience for the
various type of equipment in diagnostic imaging.

PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
Diploma of Medical Imaging is a 3 years program.
The first three semester students will be exposed to
concept of radiation science, anatomy &
physiology, radiography technique & positioning,
basic pathology, quality of radiography and
instrumentation. The second semester onwards
students are placed to undergo clinical attachment
at various institutions and establishments in the
health care industry to expose themselves the
practice of medical diagnostic imaging including
general radiography, fluoroscopy, mammography,
CT, MRI and ultrasound.
Students will be taught mainly focusing on aspect
of radiographic technique & positioning that cover
general radiograph (upper extremity, lower
extremity, shoulder girdle, pelvic girdle, thorax,
bony thorax, vertebrae, skull and others part),
special imaging modalities include Fluoroscopy, CT
Scan, MRI, Angiographic and others examination.

Clinical Attachment
Student will be attached in hospital at:
Ward (medical, paediatric, geriatric,
orthopaedic), and also accident & emergency
 department to improve their knowledge and
skills in handling and managing patient.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR
DIPLOMA IN NURSING
For Local Students:
SPM or equivalent with 5 (five) credits
in the following subjects:
management and supervision, safety, instructional
methodology, and computer applications
Clinical Attachment
During the last semester at UNISEL, the student will
spend 16 weeks Clinical Internship at an affiliate
clinical laboratory. Students apply the skills and
knowledge gained on campus to the day-to-day
laboratory environment. A clinical instructor from
the affiliate laboratory will be responsible for
student learning.

For International Students and Local
Students Studying Abroad:
GCE/O Level or equivalent with 5 (five)
credits in the following subjects;
i. Mathematics
ii. 1 science subject (Biology / Physics /
Chemistry / General Science)
iii. Any other 3 (three) subjects; and
English Proficiency:
Candidates should have IELTS (5.5) / TOEFL
(550) paper based or equivalent.
* Qualified candidates for Diploma in Nursing
will be short listed for an entry interview.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR DEGREE
PROGRAMMES
 Pass Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia
(STPM) / A Level / Pre-University
program or its equivalent with
minimum CGPA of 2.50 in the following
subjects:
English Proficiency for Foreign Students
Candidates should have IELTS (6.0) / TOEFL
(550) paper based or equivalent.

1. Biology
2. Chemistry
3. and credit or equivalent at the SPM
level in the following subjects:- Biology,
Physics, mathematics, Chemistry,
English.

OR

Related Diploma from recognised

institutions with minimum CGPA of
2.75;

OR

Related Diploma from recognised

institutions with CGPA below 2.75 and a
minimum of 3 years (36 months)
working experience in the same field.
