AM I AN EFFECTIVE TEACHER? 2

Teacher has become a common job in this modern world. However, there are not

many teachers who can really deliver lesson effectively or become an effective teacher. This

articles is trying to define what is actually an effective teacher is. It says that, teachers

effectiveness is important because it will directly impact their student achievement; are they

capable enough to improve student achievement. The article explains that there are three

main aspects that are needed to be maintained to be an effective teacher. These main aspects

will also affect the student achievement.

First, it is instructional planning. It means the teacher should plan the lesson to make

the class more effective. An effective teacher will collaborate with other teachers, use many

resources, and use student assessment data in planning the instruction. Second, it is

instructional delivery, means how the teacher will deliver and apply the planning into a

classroom. The article says, Teachers with the same background qualification and same

schooling resources do different things in their classrooms and consequently, enable their

students to achieve different levels. The last one is assessment to/for learning, means teacher

will monitor their students progress by giving some assessment. These assessments will help

the teacher to prepare for a new learning target in class that they will apply on their next

lesson. Effective teaching is much more than implementing a number of pedagogical

principles and content knowledge, claimed this article.

Read this article after I finished my first practicum, can really make me relate to the

article. I realized how planning, delivery and assessment are all connected and will always

affect each other. The article is really helpful to improve my teaching quality in the future and

actually, I have ever applied some of the method they presented here. For example, I never

limit my lesson plan ideas only come from one sources or the source that the school offered. I

will always look for new ideas to make my lesson more interesting and sometimes, I made

my own method that can produce the same outcome instead of using the traditional way. I

easily get bored with things that keep on repeating and this behaviour is also applied in my

way of making lesson plan. If I keep doing the same thing in my teaching time, I will get

bored. That is why I am trying to always look for many ideas in teaching one same lesson. It

is not only to keep my interest to teach but also I want my students to experience many

different activities that can help them to learn.

On the other hand, this article also gives me many tips that I have never done it before

that can actually make my teaching better. One of them is collaborate with other teachers. I

am an individualist person when it comes to work. I have a hard time to collaborate with

others because I am afraid that my co-worker will not get my ideas or they will come up with

ideas that is not my preference. After I read this article, I realized that collaborate with other

teachers is important because it will make our mind become wider and maybe we can get

even more ideas to put in our lesson.

Overall, this article helps me reflect back to my first practicum and gives a lot of

method that are very helpful for my future teaching. It also helps me to evaluate myself

whether I have become an effective teacher or not.
