In my second week at GEMS school, there were many situations that I have faced, some of them

were positive and others were negative. I will mention one positive experience which was

discussing the stuff about our achievement task in the school, we thought of creating a display

about science and they welcomed the idea very well. They even walked around to help us find

our requirements such as: the place of the board and the tools for designing the frame.

However, a negative experience that I have been through was before I taught my first lesson

where I stood by to watch the classroom and students were very noisy. I was afraid of not having

the ability too control them inside the classroom. So I looked for management tools that can fit

grade one students and I found the gum machine strategy which I liked the most, it is similar to

the adding points to the good behaved group with using the term of gums instead so they will be

more active.

Creating displays

Displays are attractive tools either they were inside the classroom or in the hallways. They can

decorate where it is placed in because it consists of many nice illustrations that explains a certain

topic. Furthermore, they contain students work reflecting their understanding of the topic which

makes it more reliable.

I have observed my Science display inside my classroom, it talked about the unit of plants. The

display had all of the elements that each good display must contain. First, the title of the display
which was clear enough, big enough to be seen from a distance, consisting pictures around the

title to clarify it (pictures of scientific materials). Secondly, the learning objective of the display

was available on the display as well, and in school they call it (Walt). The WALT of the display

was students will observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants). The goal

of the lesson was achieved through students work which reflects the effectiveness of the board.

The third element which was available on the display as well was students work during the unit.

It was all around the display, it consisted of drawing and writing sheets which reflected the using

of both writing and drawing skills during Science classes. The answers of worksheets reelected

students understanding of the concept as the number of worksheets hanged showed that a big

number of students have achieved the learning objective. This can help in encouraging students

to work harder so they will feel proud watching their achievements on the display with their

names on it.

The fourth element is exampled by designing and organizing the display, the display was clear to

watch and understand the purpose of it then look at the worksheets without getting distracted

because there were some spaces available between the papers. However, I think it requires some

small adjustments for instance: frames around the sheets.

I like watching displays and they are available all around the school as they describe certain

topics of each grade level and reflects the amount of understanding. And we are thinking of

creating one in the school as well to reflect our achievement as students-teachers from HCT.
