Power System Protection Course

(2nd Semester 2016/2017)

Course mini-Projects
Dr. Khaled Alawasa

The mini-projects will enable students to study a chosen topic in depth. A

suggested list of mini-projects covering some aspects of power system protection
is provided. Students (group in Two) need to choose one title from the list and
they may also suggest their own mini-project titles which are not listed as long as
they are related to power system protection.

Project requirement:

A well-written report detailing a comprehensive survey on an application related to power

electronics topics. Report should be based on a fair number of IEEE/IET/Elsevier/CIGRE journal
papers (at least 3 papers).

Two students per group

Topic selection Deadline : February 15, 2017
Report submission deadline: April 15, 2017 (23:59 PM) [late submission will not be
marked]
Report ( in word or pdf format along with PPT) should be submitted through E-
learning system
Report format (Font, space, reference .....): IEEE template posted in E-learning.
10-15 minute presentation summarizing the project findings and understanding.
Report length 7-10 pages

References: References should be from the following resources:

1. IEEE, IET, CIGRE, ELSIAVER Journal and conference papers

2. Protection relays Manufactures and technical Manuals
3. Power System Relaying Committee (PSRC) reports
