4. Tikal- One of the largest Mayan cities, with a population of 70,000. It dates to the first century A.D.
5. El Mirador- Large pre-Columbian Maya settlement, located in
the north of Guatemala.
6. Vigesimal System- Base 20 numerical system based on twenty.
7. Chichen Itza- A large pre-Columbian city built by the Mayas near the end of the Classic period. It is located in the southern state of Yucatan in Mexico.
8. Tzolkin- The sacred or ritual calendar of the Maya. It had a cycle
of 260 days and marked the ceremonial life of people.
9. Observatories- Location used for observing terrestrial or
celestial events. 10. Astronomer- An expert in or student of astronomy.
