On Monday, I taught an English lesson which is about the city and countryside. One of the things that I like in my teaching is singing song with the children. When I showed children the video song, they all were shy to sing with the song because it was new concept for them. However, when I start singing out loud, that gives them the courage to sing with me. Thus, they were interested to listen to the song carefully and participate. Moreover, I used a lot of motivating words such as amazing and brilliant which I was extremely affective strategy to reinforce children. Therefore, that make childrens have high self-esteem and confidences to engage in the lesson. On the other hand, the thing that I didnt like in my teaching in this lesson is my classroom management. I didnt use strategies to control students behaviors. For example, one of the children kept talking with other children during the circle time and I couldnt stop that behaviors. In the future, I think I should improve my classroom managements by applying some techniques to control on their behaviors in the classroom such as using stop signals and changing my voice levels. Reflection 2: English (Reading compression: Dinosaurs) On Tuesday, I taught English lesson which was about reading. The thing that I like in my teaching style in this lesson is my activity. I create one activity which is about making the dinosaurs. The children engaged in this activity and used their fine motor skills. thus, they improved their cognitive, physical and linguistic aspects during applying one activity. In contrast, my weakness in this lesson was my classroom management. In this lesson, I used clapping strategy in order to make children stop making noise but it doesnt work well. when children saw me clapping my hands, some of active children start to imitate me. They clapped their hands which make the noise even more. In my next lesson, I think I should be more flexible with the childrens in order to maintain the classroom management. I should remain children the classroom rules every time they make noise. Reflection 3: Math (Telling time) On Wednesday, I taught a math lesson which was about telling time. my strong areas in this lesson was the timing. I was organized. I prepared my materials for all the activities and make extra activities in case children finish doing the activities. moreover, I start to teach on time and finish teaching exactly on the time when the lesson finished. My weakness in this lesson was the type I ask questions. When I ask children questions, I have a little mistake in making up the question. That was a big mistake from me because that will effect on childrens English language. In the future, I should improve my English language in asking the correct form of question to the children during the lesson. Reflection 4: Math (Shapes) On Monday, I taught a math lesson which was about the different shapes. The thing that I did very well is prize strategy. I believe that prize strategy is an effective and fundamental way to control childrens behavior in the classroom. According to the theorist Skinner, He assumed that children would do the good behavior when we reinforce that behavior by praising and rewarding them. The reason why I want to apply this strategy when I teach the lesson again is that prizing children will make childrens self-esteem high and increase their emotional aspect. Other children tried to imitate the good behavior instead of bad behavior in order to be stickers. These stickers can visually remind young children of their achievements, which will promote them to keep the positive behavior and participate during the lesson. Whereas, my weakness for this lesson was my instruction. I would improve my way in giving instruction for children. Giving instruction is very significant because that can lead children to do anything in a right way. When I was explaining the different activities for children, they did not understand what they have to do. I did not deliver the concept of the activities because I did not illustrate for them a clear sample to understand what they have to do. Next time I would be more focusing on my instruction strategy for explain the activity. Moreover, I will focus on my classroom management more in order to teach a successful lesson for children. Reflection 5: Math (Pattern review) On Tuesday, I taught a math lesson about pattern. The thing that I did it very well is the exercise. Before I started my lesson, I did some exercise with children because I wanted from them to be full of vigor and vitality during the lesson. I believe that when children do exercise before they start the lesson, their mind will be open and fresh. Thus, they will be more concentrate when I will teach them. On the other hand, I have weakness that I want to change it in different way. I want to do my transition differently in the next time. My transition was poor. I used a song that illustrate for children that its time to move from the circle time to the tables to do the activities. When I turn on the song, they automatically ran around the classroom. It was completely unorganized. Although I faced some struggle in managing children and using transition but the most important is that at the end of the lesson, most children acquire the right knowledge in my lesson. I know that since I achieved my learning outcomes. Next time I will focus more of the way I do the transitions between moving from one activity to another. Moreover, I will be force on my management. I will prepare some techniques that help me to manage children behavior effectively. Reflection 6: English (Spelling) On Wednesday, I taught English for children about spelling. The thing that went well is my prize system. I motivate children a lot when they were participating. Thus, that let them feel more comfortable to answer and proud from their performance level. Another thing that I did it very well is my classroom management. Comparing to my previous lesson, my weakness was classroom management. However, this time my management improved a lot. Children were listening to my instructions. The things that didnt went well is my writing activity. I made a mistake when I let children to write the letters without drawing the line. It is important for children to have a line when they write because that will help them to know the different between the upper case letter and lower case letter. Next time, I will be focusing more on designing a useful activity for children and develop my questions for children which target their cognitive skills. Reflection 7: Math (Counting by 5). On Monday, I taught math lesson. The subject was about counting by 5. In this lesson, my strength was the kind of questions. I use many open ended questions for children because I believe childrens cognitive domain will improve quickly when they think deeply about the questions. Moreover, my instruction for the activity was effective. I give them a clear instruction. I knew that it was good because all children understand what they have to do. My weakness in this is my classroom management. In the previous lesson, children had PE so they released the energy and they feel so active. So I lose classroom management. For the next lesson, I think I should be focusing on classroom management. All of the children were excited and didnt raise their hands, they were shouting the answers. I should use a strategy which is sign to make them sit nicely. For example, I can use the bell and some signs like stop signal by raising my hand which mean that its time to be quiet. Reflection 8: English (Spelling) On Tuesday, I taught English lesson specifically spelling area. In this lesson, my strength was reinforcement. I used many praise for children that give them motivation to participate with me. For example, I praise one child who was sitting in a good way. Then, all children copy his behavior in order to get a motivation words. The thing that doesnt worked well is the type of activities. generally, in this lesson I used worksheets as an activity for children which is kind of boring. Most of the children didnt like doing this activity. For the future, I recommend for myself to use more hand in activities and craft. These activities target childrens interest and make them learn quickly because they are enjoying. Reflection 9: Art lesson (Card for Mother Day) On Wednesday, I taught art lesson. I asked children to make a card for mother day. the thing that I did well in this lesson, I act like role model. I imitate applying the activities in front of the children which make them understand clearly. My weakness in this lesson is that I didnt prepare extra materials for children. There was less materials for them. For the future, I should be more organized and prepare my materials for the whole class and provide extra in case anyone need something to use. Reflection 10: Math (counting by 10) On Tuesday, I taught a math lesson which was count counting by 10. It was really effective way to start the lesson because these kind of questions will warm-up childrens thinking and make them ready for the lesson. I used many positive words which let children feel proud of themselves and it raise their self-esteem. According to Vygotsky, children will love to learn if they received positive words. So thats the reason why I tried to use motivation words a lot. Moreover, although the internet doesnt work and all of my teaching materials were on the internet, I changed the plan by doing a quick activity in the board for the while class. However, my instructions for the activity was weak. Some children didnt understand what they should to do. Moreover, my questions werent complete correct. They had some errors. Next time, I think I should do this activity in front of them because when they will see a model of the activity, they will understand more.
