3 A machine costs Rs.10,000/-. Operating costs are Rs.500 per year for the first five
years. In the sixth and succeeding years the operating cost increases by Rs.100 per
year. Find the minimum length of time required to hold the machine before it is
replaced.

4 A game of matching coins with two players suppose A wins one unit of value when
there are two heads, wins nothing when there are two tails and losses unit of value
when there are one head and one tail. Determine the payoff matrix, the best strategies
for each player and the value of the game.

5 a) Arrivals at a telephone booth are considered to be Poisson, with an average time of 10

minutes between one arrival and the next. The length of a phone call assumed to be
distributed exponentially with mean 3 minutes. Then,
(i) What is the probability that a person arriving at the booth will have to wait?
(ii) What is the average length of the queues that form from time to time?
(iii) The telephone department will install a second booth when convinced that an
arrival would expect to have to wait at least three minutes for the phone. By how
much must the flow of arrivals be increased in order to justify a second booth?
