Central Presbyterian Church

Mardi Gras Sunday

February 26, 2017 at 11:00am

Gathering
Please silence your cell phones.

If you have a request for prayer, you may write it on a blue prayer request card that can be
found in the pew rack or on the table at the back of the sanctuary. An usher will collect it
during the first hymn or you may say it at the beginning of the Prayers of the People.

During the prelude, we invite you to make the transition from getting here to being here.
Take these few minutes to prepare for worship and allow the Spirit to refresh you.

SHOWALTER
Prayer of Confession (unison)
We admit to you, O God,
that we choose to shield the light of Christs goodness in our lives.
Help us to see your grace and your beauty
as sufficient for us and for all.
Forgive us when we choose to live in the shadows
rather than in Christs light;
when we hold grudges rather than extend forgiveness;
when we opt for selfishness rather than kindness.

(a time of silent prayer)

Assurance of Gods Forgiveness

All: This is amazing news! We are forgiven in Christ Jesus.

Reclaiming Christ

Our Mission
Nurturing Gods gifts so generously given, we work to grow in our life together and in our
engagement with theIntentionally
world by: Inclusive
celebrating the hope of Jesus Christ
working actively for peace and justice
reaching out with love to all Gods children, including those outside the mainstream
of society
being responsive and responsible to each other and to those whose lives we touch
joyfully opening ourselves to what Gods Spirit will yet call us to be and do

You are welcome and encouraged to say AMEN at the end of prayers and when you are
particularly moved by a piece of music or something that happens in worship.

Central Presbyterian is a Peacemaking congregation (www.pcusa.org/peacemaking) and a

More Light congregation. As a More Light congregation, we seek the full participation of
lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people of faith in the life, ministry, and witness of the
Presbyterian Church (USA) (www.mlp.org). We have also made a commitment to support
Presbyterian mission around the corner and around the globe through the four churchwide
Special Offerings and basic mission support. Central is part of The Accessible Congregations
Campaign, which commits churches to removing their barriers and welcoming people with
all types of disabilities. If you would like to learn more about joining Central, we invite
you to talk with either one of our pastors.

Language and Worship

At Central, we strive to balance traditional images of God with new images that challenge us
to recognize Gods many faces. The male-centered language the church has historically used
links us to a rich heritage; nevertheless, it is incomplete and fails to acknowledge that we are
allmale and femalecreated in Gods image. While it is sometimes impossible to use
totally inclusive language, todays worship leaders have attempted to use a variety of images
and to use language that is inclusive for God and for humankind.
