Correct it
In this pairwork teaching activity, students practice correcting sentences by changing
subject/object pronouns to possessive pronouns and possessive adjectives.
Before class, make one copy of the worksheet for each pair of students and cut as indicated.
Procedure
Divide the students into pairs (A and B). Give each student a corresponding A or B worksheet.
Tell the students not to write anything on their worksheet at this stage.
Explain that the words in bold in the sentences are wrong. The subject pronouns should be
possessive adjectives and the object pronouns should be possessive pronouns.
Draw the students attention to the first sentence which is shown as an example.
Have the students take it in turns to read their sentences to their partner.
Their partner listens to the sentence and repeats it back to their classmate, correcting the
subject/object pronoun to a possessive pronoun or possessive adjective.
The student then writes their partners answer in the space provided after the sentence.
Students should not help each other at this time. Only write down their partners answers.
When the students have finished, they call you to check their answers. The first pair of students
to finish is the winner.
The remaining pairs continue until they have completed their worksheets correctly. If students
have incorrect answers, they can now help each other to correct their mistakes.
