It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of highest recommendation for Mackenzie Magner. I have
been extremely fortunate to work with Mackenzie at MESA for this 2016-17 school year, while she was
both an intern and a substitute teacher.

After twelve years as a school Speech Language Pathologist, having worked at a total of ten schools in
Mapleton Public school district and having worked with Mackenzie closely for only one school year, I
am floored with the fact that Mackenzie is mature beyond her years in so many ways and is one of the
most intelligent, respected, and efficient special education teachers with whom I have ever worked.

I am truly amazed how keen Mackenzies knowledge of the importance of differentiation is; not only
with her lessons but guiding general education teachers to do so for her special education students. Even
after taking over for the Special Education Teacher out on medical leave, Mackenzie communicates
frequently and well with both teachers and students. Frequent emails and scheduling time to discuss
students occurs on a daily basis. Her friendly, approachable and professional manner makes these
exchanges very positive and productive.

Mackenzie is a strong special education team member, helping to solve problems and very adeptly
addressing specific needs of students. Mackenzie has a get things done attitude, meeting with students
individually to enhance curriculum understanding, having students take assessments with her, and
calling parents when needed to discuss a variety of issues and speaking with teachers and the school
director. Additionally she is always on-time with her paperwork which is detailed and comprehensive.

Not only is Mackenzie honest, open, and always friendly to staff, but she is also extremely
understanding with her students while finding ways to motivate and challenge them. She creates a
community of trust and honesty and her down to earth, kind, yet no nonsense manner empowers
students to open up about their personal lives, ask for help, and want to perform well. She also knows
about their triumphs and accomplishments and finds ways to celebrate them with individual students
and/or class.
