responsibilities & duties)

a) Description:
Pharmacists dispense medications to patients according to doctor's prescription and provide
info about how to take them

Pharmacists give out medication to patients according to the doctors prescription and informs
patients important information they need to know about it, and how to take it.

b) Duties:
- Check patients medical histories (making sure it does not interfere with new
medicine, if they are allergic etc)
- Package and count medicine
- Supervise pharmacy technicians
- Provide information to customers and patients (how to take medicine, side
effects, answer questions)

a) Environment:
- Indoor job
- Could be in either setting, but mostly in urban/populated areas where more
people need medicine, more hospitals etc.

- Retail Stores
- Wholesale pharmacies
- Pharmaceutical manufacturing companies.

c) No travel obligations

d) Working hours:
- 35-40 hours a week, However, many retail and hospital pharmacies are open
long hours, so weekend and evening work is very common.
- Many work on weekends or evenings.

e) Holidays:
- Three weeks average.

f) Physical Risks:
- When working with potentially dangerous pharmaceutical products, pharmacists
wear gloves and masks and use protective equipment. (if you dont wear it, then could
lead to physical injuries)

- Heavy work load can lead to stress, dealing with patients or customers etc.

a) Salary Range
- Most pharmacists earn between $60,000 and $150,000 a year. The average
annual salary is somewhere in the $70,000 to $100,000 range. However, the most
successful in this field, including those who own and run retail pharmacies, can
earn well over $100,000 a year

- In addition to their salaries, pharmacists who work full-time usually receive
benefits such as dental coverage and paid sick leave and vacation time. Some
pharmacists can also earn bonuses or participate in profit-sharing programs.

I am highly skilled at caring for people which can help me with pharmacy because as a
pharmacist you must constantly be helping patients and customers with medication. One
of my interest traits are social, hence I will be able to get along with other people in the
workplace along with patients and customers. Not only will these skills help me in the
future but they also help me in everyday life, as people are constantly around me. In
school, when volunteering, at home with family. Social skills allows me to get along with
others and maintain a peaceful environment.

g) Additional Personal Plans


I plan to volunteer at hospitals, and job shadow my aunt who is a pharmacist, to get an idea of
what pharmacy may be like, what to expect, and to have to some experience. I also plan on
finding a job over the summer to save money for post secondary studies. In addition, I plan on
maintaining good grades and working hard in school. Also, participate in extracurricular activities
for a good resume, experience, and to help with time management,
