Reflection for A Writing Project for The Years

In this article, the author introduces a new writing method which combines with two

different grades, and this approach can be used all age groups. There are six steps in this writing

process. The first step is to create a questionnaire to students or their parents which include the

grade and region background. The following step is separate boys and girls in the charge group

and each group should involve one lower grade boys or girls, since they are going to find some

ideas from the questionnaire and childs book, using their child as a main character, choosing one

perfect idea, and getting agreements from other group members. Then, use the corporate

principle to read, create, and write the second new story. The next stage is to an add new

suggestion which may make this story become more vivid. The last second step is encouraging

all group to edit this story by drawing, cutting, pasting and so on. And the final step is using

sticky adhesive to makes book pages and information which makes the book more detailed.

This is a skillful and creative approach, through this method, it is easy to find supported

classroom climate by the teacher. Every students or group members should share work and make

sure everyone should be accountable. Strategy teaching, co-operative learning, achievement

expectations can be showed in this learning process. I really appreciate that, students especially

secondary student can get more experience and skill to work with young children which can

foster their patience and cooperating skill, and young students can see mature thinking through

their colleague, that may grow their act and executive ability, as elementary students and

secondary students who have age and intelligence span should collaborate to finish a new book

together. However, from the introduction, authors motivation is just to connect her original

students and new students to be together. And we cannot find the educational motivation of this

process, as the author havent introduced why she created this way, and students through this

process can get which benefits or foster which kind of skills. If the purpose of the approach is

just to have a fellowship with two parts students, the author needs to develop more educational

meaning and motivations in this class. In terms of the first step, I think to be an effective teacher

knowing students background is essential, but it just an orientation for teachers, not for this

writing process.

Overall, this is a creative idea, and in the future teaching, we may use it as one strategy in

our pedagogy. But we need to keep work on deeper meaning in this process so that students will

not only get cooperating exercise673 but also writing skills.
