MARINERS RECALL RHP EVAN MARSHALL FROM AAA TACOMA


RHP CASEY FIEN OUTRIGHTED TO AAA TACOMA
Outfielder Boog Powell reinstated to AAA Tacoma.
SEATTLE, Wash Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto
announced today that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Evan Marshall from AAA Tacoma. Outfielder Boog Powell
has been reinstated to AAA Tacoma. To make room on the Major League 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Casey Fien
has been outrighted to AAA Tacoma.

Marshall, 26 (27 on April 18), appeared in one game with AAA Tacoma, striking out two in 0.2 innings after being claimed
off waivers from Arizona on April 4. He was designated for assignment on March 28 after posting a 3.38 ERA (2 ER, 5.1 IP)
in six Cactus League appearances with Arizona. In 15 appearances with Arizona last season, he posted an 8.80 ERA (15
ER, 15.1 IP) with 9 strikeouts in 15 relief appearances. With AAA Reno, he was 1-1 with a 4.59 ERA (17 ER, 33.1 IP) with
28 strikeouts in 33 relief appearances. He was on the minor league disabled list Aug. 24-31 with a right lumbar spine strain.
In parts of three Major League seasons, he is 4-7 with a 4.50 ERA (39 ER, 78.0 IP) with 70 strikeouts in 85 relief
appearances. In six minor league seasons, he is 13-14 with a 3.77 ERA (92 ER, 220.1 IP) with 191 strikeouts in 202 games.
He was selected by Arizona in the 4th round of the 2011 MLB First-year Player Draft out of Kansas State University.

Powell, 24, hit .577 (15x26) with 9 runs, 1 double, 2 triples and 6 RBI in 16 Spring Training games. He hit .270 (67x248)
with 39 runs, 9 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs and 27 RBI in 64 games with AAA Tacoma before receiving an 80-game
suspension for violating Major League Baseballs Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program on June 23, 2016. He
played for the Aguilas Cibaenas of the Dominican Winter League where he hit .245 (27x110) with 14 runs, 27 hits, 1 double,
1 triple and 6 RBI in 42 games.

In five minor league seasons, he has hit .301 (1330x1552) with 209 runs, 43 doubles, 19 triples, 9 home runs and 122 RBI
in 358 games with the Oakland (2012-14), Tampa Bay (2015) and Seattle (2016) organizations. He was selected by Oakland
in the 20th round of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Orange Coast College.

Fien, 33, was 0-0 with an 11.12 ERA (7 ER, 5.2 IP) with 5 strikeouts in 5 appearances with Seattle this season. He
combined to go 1-1 with a 5.49 ERA (24 ER, 39.1 IP) with 35 strikeouts and 10 walks in 39 relief appearances last season
with Minnesota and Los Angeles NL. The 6-foot-2, 212-pound right-hander began the season with the Twins, where he
went 1-0 with a 7.90 ERA (12 ER, 13.2 IP) with 12 strikeouts and 3 walks in 14 games. After being claimed off waivers
from the Twins by the Dodgers on May 7, Fien went 0-1 with a 4.21 ERA (12 ER, 25.2 IP) with 23 strikeouts and 7 walks
in 25 relief appearances with Los Angeles NL. In 39 games last season, Fien recorded 1 or fewer walks in 38
appearances, including 30 outings with 0 free passes.

The native of Santa Rosa, CA, was selected by Detroit in the 20th round of the 2006 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of
Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He made his Major League debut with the Tigers on July 26, 2009 vs. Chicago-AL. After
making 23 relief appearances in the Houston Astros minor league system in 2011, Fien signed as a free agent with
Minnesota on Jan. 3, 2012. In parts of 7 Major League seasons with the Tigers (2009-2010), Twins (2012-2016) and
Dodgers (2016), Fien has compiled a career record of 17-17 with a 4.20 ERA (132 ER, 282.2 IP) with 246 strikeouts and
58 walks in 298 career relief appearances.
