CURRICULUM
Student-Centered Teaching
There is a wonderful interplay between the musical and extra-musical benefits of piano
instruction. Pianistic growth embraces both practiced skills and the cultivation of an artistic
mindset. A rigid, disciplined approach may produce some of the former, but is unlikely to yield
insightful analysis, creative daring, and expressive sensitivity. Such attributes of artistry shine at
high levels of musical proficiency, yet have extraordinary value in all walks of life. With Piano
Adventures we cultivate this artistic mindsetnot as a later add-on, but at the core of the earliest
levels. This requires our best instruction. It invites us to be student-centered. We dont merely
teach the repertoire; we develop each student. Our teaching with Piano Adventures fosters
analysis, creativity, expression, and nurtures disciplined habits of thought.

Arpeggio comes from the Italian word for harp. Your teacher will help you pronounce it.
To play an arpeggio, play the notes of a chord one after another going up or down the keyboard.
Practice these cross-hand arpeggios until you can play them smoothly and easily.
Broken
? chords are played with

PIANO LITERATURE WITH CDs
The Developing Artist Piano Literature library is a collection of authentic keyboard literature, consisting of graded, carefully
selected repertoire from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary periods. Serving as an excellent introduction
to keyboard literature, the books offer ample choice for auditions, festivals, recitals, and personal study. Because a musical
example is often worth a thousand words, students will enjoy the performance CDs included with each book.

About the Fabers
Nancy and Randall Faber have combined their backgrounds as composer
and performer to become leading supporters of piano teachers and students.
The husband and wife team has authored over 200 publications, including the
bestselling Piano Adventures method and the PreTime to BigTime Piano
Supplementary Library.
Nancy Faber was named Distinguished Composer of the Year by the Music
Teachers National Association, winning the top award for her composition
Tennessee Suite for Piano and String Quartet. She penned the winning
repertoire for the National Flute Association Chamber Music Competition,
was a commissioned composer for MTNAs Year of Collaborative Music, and
has delighted children with her composition The Snow Queen through a grant
by the Lila Wallace Readers Digest Foundation. Ms. Faber studied piano at
the Eastman School and did her graduate work in composition with Joan Tower,
Nicholas Maw and William Albright. Her music has been heard on network
television and public radio.
Randall Faber has performed and lectured throughout North America and Asia.
He has been Convention Artist for many music teacher organizations and guest
artist at universities around the world. Faber has appeared on internationally
broadcast television and on public radio in a live recital broadcast. Dr. Fabers
research on motivation and talent development has been featured in journals
and media in South Korea, Australia, and at the 9th International Conference
on Motivation in Lisbon, Portugal.
The Fabers advocate piano study not only for personal expression and
performance success, but also as a vehicle for the students creative, cognitive,
and personal development. Their philosophy is reflected in their writing, their
public appearances, and in their own teaching.
