1. What is your motivation to apply for this post?

Since from the starting, I have always appreciated and gained a lot from the
ISMP (Institute Student Mentor Program). I was amazed to see structure and
working of the program which was of a great help to each of the freshmen.
The DAMP continued to provide the essential support we needed in our
sophomore year and carrying forward the responsibilities now, I'd like to help
my juniors sail through different problems faced by them, majorly academic,
by using my experience to the best of my knowledge. I was always
motivated to guide my juniors when the time comes. The DAMP provides a
very highly ordered, efficient and friendly way to give sophomores the best
academic guidance from someone who has passed through that phase and I
would want myself to be that guide, mentor and friend for my mentees.

2. What do you think is the role of a DAMP Mentor? *

The role of a DAMP Mentor is to guide the juniors, majorly in academics, so

that they get their problems sorted. He is there to help you out from the
difficulties by giving you advises or techniques related to that problem to
make it easier for you to solve. He is not expected to teach or tutor the
students but is expected to encourage them and suggest them ways to make
the subjects easier. He is there to share his experiences and give you
methods taken by him to get past the situation.

3. Why do you think you would make a good mentor? *

I myself have gone through different phases of my academic performance

during my stay at IIT Bombay. There was a time when I used to get carried
away from my academics because of the luring high speed internet in our
institute. It clearly affected my performance but soon I realised my mistakes
and corrected upon those in due time. I have learnt about judiciously
investing time, managing your academics and balancing it with other
activities and I would like to pass on my experience to my mentees so that
they don't repeat such mistakes. Further, I was actively involved at various
positions in the institute like Convener of Finance Club, Interview Coordinator
in Placement Team etc. I think the commitment, motivation and dedication
that I have developed towards my responsibility would be a thing my juniors
would like to inculcate, in some way or the other. I constantly try to improve
myself as a person and would want to help my mentees in the best way I can,
through DAMP.
4. What kind of academic problems exist currently in the department
according to you? What do you suggest to tackle these problems? *

I feel that the Faculty Advisor-student interaction is currently limited and

students hesitate to seek guidance from their Faculty Advisors. I would like to
bridge that gap through the DAMP which would enable students to seek wise
advice from their respective Faculty Advisors.

I also feel that the interactions between DAMP mentors and mentees (in some
cases) is limited. More frequent interactions will help the mentors to guide
and resolve problems in a better way that the students are facing. I would like
to work with DAMP and find out ways to resolve out the problem.

5. Which activities have you been a part of during your stay at IIT
Bombay? *

Any cultural, sports or technical activity, position of responsibility,

club association, etc.

There is a whole range of activities starting from sports to POR to academics

that i have been part of in IIT Bombay. I am the Convener of Finance Club, UG
Academic Council; taking a step further I was the Coordinator in E-Cell, I had
also been interview coordinator in Placement Cell. In sports, I was the runner
up in Institute Carrom Open Singles and Doubles, participated in Carrom GC,
Basketball GC, Crossy GC etc. Nevertheless I always kept my academics on
my front and never let that gaurd down.
