I The purpose of this work instruction is to establish and maintain documented procedure that describes
method for handling storage & hansportation via rail road or marine shipmeni of bare pipes

This section covers the instructions for pipe handling, storage & transportation to deliver the product as

ner customer specification and purchase order requirements.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:

3.1 HOD -Logistics shall be overall responsible for implementation of the procedure & respective plant
Head - QC shall ensure the implementation in line wit[this procedure.

4.0 HANDLING

Pipes shall be handled in safe & careful manner by skilled workmen to avoid damage due to impact /
janing.
4.I HAITDLING EQUIPMENTS:
Vacuum cranes, Mobile crane, Hydra, EOT cranes equipped with spreader bars, suitable slings,
shackles and hooks lined / padded by Teflon/rubber/other cushioning material excluding brai,-
copper, bronze & u.ry other copper alloy shall be used for handling / transportation of pipes.
4.1.t SPREADER BARS,I-BEAMS AtrD HANGERS:

I-Beams are of adequate capacity & placed at the centre of the pipe i.e.20-2t Ft. (Approx. half the
Length of the Pipe)
Side hangers are 8 to 12 Ft. long with eye holes to hook the slings.

Hangers are fixed to the barter beam with quarter pin to provide flexibility at the time of lifting.

4.I.2 .WIRE SLINGS / WEBBING SLINGS:

Wire Slings of sufficient length from the cranes hooks to the bars shall be at angle not less than l0o
and not more than 45". Alternatively, webbing slings of adequately capacity may be used.

4.r3 HOOKS:

Portion of the hook's jaw clamping the beveled edge of pipe shall be lined / padded / Bare with
Teflon/rubber / other cushioning maGrial excluding brass, copper, bronze & *v other copper
alloy.
4.I.4 BEVEL EIYD PROTECTORIEIID CAPS :
The bevelled end of pipes will be protected by metallic bevel end protector. The thickness of end
protector ranges from 0.E mm to 1.6 mm.

5.1 a) Pipe should be stacked on sand rows covered with plastic sheet of thick Gauge, Sand to be free
from stones and necessarily covered.

b) Alternatively, Pipes may be stacked on wooden sleepers.

c) No of support (Bearing) shall be minimum 2 rows.

s..2 Bar code should be applied on both ends ofpipes.

5.3 STACKING PATTERN:


5.4 Stack should be slightly slopping to drain off rain water.

5.4.1 Stack should be in trapezoidal from to.avoid collapsing

5.5 STACK HEIGHT:

5.5.r The pipe stack height in the yard is depended on pipe size &grade of steel pipe. This is calculated as
per recommendation of API RP sl,l.

The static load stress is calculated by following equation:

6.0 TRANSPORTATION:

6.I TRAILERS:

6.1. I ldeally low-bed trailers are used. In case of semi low beds trailers an even platform shall be created
by placing a single block or log on the lower end of the trailer bed.

6,1.2 The approximate size of the sleepers shall be of 8.5 Ft. lenglh X 6" width X 4" height OR 8.5 Ft.
length X 5" width X 4" height

6.1.3 Number of pipe loadod on each trailer shall be dependent upon the size and grade of steel pipe as per
API RP5LI.
Pipe stacking pattern on trailer:
a. Width of the trailer - 8.5 feet Maximum

b. I-ength of the trailer - 40 feet

6.2.1 MATERIAL TO BE USED - WIRE SLINGS / RUBBER STRAPS

6.2 LASHING DI.JRING TRANSPORTATION:


6.2.1. I Pipes shall be lashed down or secured by a minimum of three convenient buckle and strap load wire
slings, chain or other suitable soft material. It shall be ensured that lashing wire slings are always on
rubber packing & do not come in contact with the pipe body. The tightening mechan-ism of the strap
shall not be allowed to come in contact with the pipes. '

6.2.1.2 Minimum 3 ratchet belts or chains will be placed on the bare pipes during the transportation.
