Student Learning Goals (List desired learning goals, and your plans to meet them, for the next weeks clinical
experience. Goals should be based on identified performance issues and the desire for new knowledge and
experiences.)
I really had a wonderful time working with peds. I want to go into neonatal nursing and my first day of clinical I was
able to work with a 16 day old baby. I very much loved that experience and when I was doing my clinical I know I made
the right career choice. I also really enjoyed the peds-ER experience also. I like the fast pace and keeping busy and
having a lot of patients, learning of different things, etc. I also enjoyed listening to the instructors stories and trying to
figure out what was causing the patient to be sick. I very much enjoyed my pediatric rotation and wish it was longer. I
most definitely didnt want to leave the hospital when it was time to go!
While I did my clinical I was able to practice the following skills: nasopharyngeal suctioning, vital signs, weighing
diapers, giving IV syringe medication (which involved reconstituting the medication) weighing a baby, and comforting
patients.
I was able to watch and learn how a doctor glues a cut together, how to try to remove an eraser from a small childs
ear, and able to listen to the doctor and patients interact.

Student Clinical Performance Evaluation SUMMATIVE
Shalanei enjoyed being with children and it showed with her enthusiasm in caring for them. She was very confident
when entering patients rooms, helping them to trust in her skills. Because there was a vast array in ages of the
children, she would always correctly identify their developmental level and adjusting her approach/communication style
appropriately.
During group discussions (case scenarios), she demonstrated strong critical thinking skills to identify the possible
diagnoses, plan appropriate care, and re-evaluate for responses.
