Significance of the Study:

According to the Website PCEPSDI.Org the average polyethylene and polypropylene
plastic products consumed was 279,602 metric ton of waste, 86,899 of it is from domestic
production and the rest is from imported waste materials. This waste of plastic products was
always been a problem not only to the Philippines but also to other countries. The major problem
is how to eliminate this products & reduce the present amount of this waste materials.
The researchers are conducting this study to have an alternative way to reduce the amount
of polyethylene & polypropylene plastics & to negate the lifelong effect of the existing recycling
programs being used nowadays.
Polyethylene and Polypropylene plastics products are hydrocarbon materials, which is
also the composition of gasoline & diesel or simply fuel, which can be attained through simple
modifications.
The researchers are to perform experiments which will break the components of plastics
or reverse the process of polymerization using the process pyrolysis which is a thermochemical
degradation of organic materials at elevated temperature without the participation of oxygen.
These chemical processes are used to break down the long carbon chains found in plastic into the
shorter chains found in gasoline or diesel type fuels. with the use of heat.
Pyrolysis is only attained at elevated temp using a closed pressure vessel which is called
reactor. Tremendous amount of heat is generated on the surface of the reactor, during the process
itself. The researchers found a way on how to harness the supposed to be heat loss on the reactor
using the thermal difference to create a voltage.
The researchers conducted this study to produce two useful products from waste
materials, fuel & electricity which is a pivotal part of this era, the so called era of machines,
electronics and mechanism.

Objectives: This study aims to:

Produce fuel from polyethylene & polypropylene waste materials
Produce electricity by means of thermal difference
Reduce plastic waste material
Produce products such as fuel and electricity without harming the environment

Scope & Delimitations:

This study focuses in converting polyethylene & polypropylene waste materials into
usable liquid fuel, and to produce this fuel as close as to the chemical composition of commercial
gasoline, kerosene & diesel. This study also included electricity production through the use of
heat difference. The researchers used pyrolysis & seebeck effect, because these are most
effective, economically viable and green process in producing fuel and electricity.
