USA DWC Pipes for Retention Systems

Storm Water Problem solved with large HDPE Retention System

The expansion of the buildings did not leave any

space for an above ground retention pond.

This meant putting the retention system under the

schools new parking lot.
USA DWC Pipes for Retention Systems

Storm Water Problem solved with large HDPE Retention System

DWC was the product of choice also

because it can be fabricated with complex
angles for a tailored fit.

No other product has this feature and can

perform for more than 100 years, and
probably longer!
USA DWC Pipes for Retention Systems

Storm Water Problem solved with large HDPE Retention System

Project data:

Total storage capacity: 920 m of water

DWC Pipes made of HDPE: 340 m n.s. 1500 mm i.d.

240 m n.s. 1200 mm i.d.

The pipe system was fully perforated to enable water coming off the
parking lot to enter the pipe and be slowly released into the native soil.

The entire area was fully topped with geotextile to keep mud from
infiltrating the pipe through the perforations.
Efficient Hydraulics

Mannings n value of 0.009 0.012

DWC HDPE Pipes provide significantly more capacity

than reinforced concrete pipe.

Smooth interior pipe wont snag debris or encourage

sediment, even on shallow grades, and these superior
hydraulics allow pipe systems to be downsized compared
to traditional materials, reducing material and labour
costs.

Ref:
Corrugated Polyethylene Pipe Association (CPPA)
A division of Plastics Pipe Institute, Inc., Washington DC, USA
Light weight enables ease in handling, transportation & installation.

The same property also makes it prone to floatation

External corrugation of DWC PE Pipe enables it to get embedded in

soil, reducing floatation possibility. The possibility is much more for
other category of plastic piping systems.

Under specific condition any pipe material and sizes can float
For Alcorr DWC PE Pipes, minimum recommended cover** for
structural protection to prevent flotation:
300 mm for Pipe ID up to 300mm
600 mm for Pipe ID above 300mm
**Saturated Soil Density 1990 Kg / m3
