The Battle of Armageddon

Taylor Bunch Israel in Type and anti Type.

Principles
Three methods of study
1) How to interpret Biblical types Where a story in the Old Testament foreshadows a greater
fulfilment in the future. ie Abraham & Isaac Sacrifice Jesus
2) Importance of studying the structure of things
3) How to study Ellen White when she makes comments about Biblical passages. Sometimes she
will comment on a Prophetic passage however she never uses the language of that passage or quotes
the verses. So how do you know?

1) Look for the pattern or broader picture and how the pieces fit together. Dont just study events
but study the order and sequence of events in a Biblical story. Then look to the future to see if you
have the same sequence or order of events. Look at the broader picture..

Example the story of Elijah the Bible presents 4 Elijahs. 1st is the historical Elijah 1 Kings 17 He
has Three enemies, Jezebel, The king Ahab, the third enemies are the false prophets of Baal, whom
Jezebel uses to extend the false religion of Baal.

Who is the new testament Elijah? John the Baptist, now Elijah doesnt appear by himself he always
appears in bad company. If Jon the Baptist is the new testament Elijah then his 3 enemies must also
appear in the new testament. If you look at the death of John the Baptist you will find that there are
three figures that lead to his death. There is a king, whimp Herod, a vile adulterous woman who
wants John the Baptist dead, but she has another instrument her daughter through whom they work
upon the king to kill John the baptist. So we see that the whole story is a typology. Mark 6:24

Then there is the Elijah of the middle ages Rev 2:18 we find the fourth church Thyatira which talks
of Jezebel which is the papal church. The two witnesses Rev 11:3 lived through this period and
they closed the heavens so it doesnt rain for 3 1/2 years they are symbolic or typological years.

End time fulfilment because the enemies of Gods people at the end of time are three, the dragon,
the beast Rev 13 first part and the false prophet. These three powers play the same role as the
enemies of Elijah in the old testament. The dragon represents the kings of the earth, the beast
represents the papacy which is spoken of as the harlot, and the false prophets are her daughters who
do her biddings. So as you understand the old testament story you come to see that there is a much
broader global, world wide fulfilment of this story of Elijah. This is what we mean by not looking
at events only but the whole story and find how the story is fulfilled in the future in all its details in
the same sequence the same order.

You have to know the old testament story backwards and forwards, the old testament story is the
foundation for typology if you dont understand the original story then you will mess up when you
try and interpret the future. You must know all of the details of the story, study the old testament
story.

Dont assume when Ellen white is commenting on these stories is going to use the language of the
story or that she is going to quote the verses. Ellen white many times will comment on old
testament stories she will apply them in the future and she will never use the language or quote the
verses. Eg Daniel 11:40-45 structure order of events

Need to learn to ask the Bible questions

See Rev 15:2-3 says that the end time generation 144,000 those who are alive when Jesus comes
are going to sing the song of Moses and the Lamb. The Lamb I understand but Moses? Why
Moses? So my question is what does Moses have to do with the end time deliverance? I can
understand singing the song of the lamb, but why is it the song of Moses and the Lamb? Maybe the
end time deliverance is going to be similar to the deliverance in the time of Moses, and maybe that
song that was sung on the other side of the Red sea is a similar song that the redeemed are going to
sing in the future. If the song is going to be the same then the events that lead up to the song must
also be parallel. So it is not only the song but also the events that lead up to the song, ie dont miss
the forest for the individual trees.

Learn to think in terms of structure, think in terms of the broader structure how do all of the pieces
fit together. Determine if the order is the same.

Revelation describes 7 devastating plagues that will fall on the planet after the door of probation
closes.

The temple is filled with smoke and 7 angels with the come out and go their way, these plagues
will devastate the earth and return it to the condition that it was in at the beginning of creation week.
With out form and void and in darkness. Lets look at the final 3 plagues from three angles.

Rev 16:10-21
Exodus 14 & 15
GC 635-637

Rev 16:10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was
full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,

Where does this plague fall? Throne or seat. What is the aftermath? his kingdom was full of
darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,

darkness and gnawing of the tongue because of pain.

Rev 16:11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented
not of their deeds.

Details
1) The beast.who is this beast? When Revelation speaks of the beast it is referring to the first
beast of Rev 13 the beast that rises from the sea. The same as the little horn in Daniel 7.
Persecutes the saints of the most high, it speaks great words and blasphemies against the Most
High, it thinks it cane change times and the law of God. It rules for times, time and the
dividing of time. So when the text talks about the plague falling on the seat of the beast which
power is it falling on? The Roman Catholic Papacy!! Notice it falls on the seat or the throne of
the beast, where is that? It is in Rome, so it falls on the leadership of the system. As a result of
this his kingdom is filled with darkness. What is the kingdom of the beast? Rev 13:3 And I
saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the
world wondered after the beast. Rev 13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the
saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and
nations. Rev 17:1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and
talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great
whore that sitteth upon many waters:
Rev 17:2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the
earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

Rev 17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are
peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
Is there a distinction between the beast and those whom the beast rules over? Yes there is ie harlot
and waters, there is a distinction between the system and the people it rules over. Ellen White
makes it clear we need to be critical of the system, but remember that there are many sincere
people of God in the System.

Beast = Papacy
Where is its centre of power=Vatican
When this plague falls the whole kingdom is filled with darkness= whole world

Gnaw their tongues in pain, what is the tongue used for? To speak the Bible talks of a tongue that
speaks the truth and a deceitful tongue etc
Why does this plague afflict the tongue? What have the leaders of this system done? They have
used their tongues to teach lies, particularly concerning the seventh day Sabbath and the
commandments of God.

This comes from Zechariah 14

Zec 14:12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have
fought against Jerusalem; Samaritian woman worship where? in spirit and truth, pentecost
ie the Shekina is now worldwide in is people, Jerusalem worldwide.
The plague:-
Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away
in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.
Zec 14:13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult (panic) from the LORD shall be
among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall
rise up against the hand of his neighbour.

Weapons used to slay one another not Gods people.

So we have darkness, they gnaw their tongues in pain, they have sores all over their bodies. Then a
panic comes and instead of using their swords to slay Gods people they slay each other.

Plague 6
Rev 16:12-16

Rev 16:12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water
thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

Two central thoughts 1) The waters of the Euphrates are dried up

2) the way is prepared for the kings of the east

What is the river Euphrates? What is meant by the drying up of its waters? Who are the kings
from the east? How is the way prepared for their arrival?

Old testament background, first the fall of ancient Babylon, because Babylon sat on which river?
And the Euphrates was dried up to prepare the way fro Cyrus and his armies to overthrow the
city.

Daniel 5, Jeremiah 50 & 51 Isa 41 see also Xenophon and Herodatus

The euphrates was its greatest asset and its biggest risk they felt that they were invincible that is
why Isaiah 47 says I am and there is no other. She says I will never be a widow, she is seated
with self confidence and this is because of the river. She can grow food as long as the water
flows, they can irrigate and produce food. Ie it is invincible as long as the river is flowing.
However if the river is dried up, then what? Daniel 5 describes the fall of Babylon, the
historians tell us that night because they were in a drunken stupor the gates were left open.
Cyrus used channels that Nebuchadnezzar had build outside the city for flood mitigation. And
that night Cyrus and his armies who are spoken of as coming from the north and the east
Isaiah 41 and Jeremiah 50 & 51.

In the old testament the river is literal, the city is literal, Israel is literal, and Belshazzar is drinking
literal wine, and they worship literal idols. In Revelation this become global and symbolic,
Israel become spiritual Israel, Babylon becomes spiritual Babylon, the wine being drunk by the
world becomes spiritual wine. What was local and literal becomes global and spiritual or
symbolic.

Summary

The Euphrates river was the greatest asset of Babylon and its greatest potential liability. Babylon
was practising idolatry and drinking wine the night Cyrus came with his armies from the north
and from the east he dried up the river Euphrates by diverting through the channels. They
entered the city of Babylon and the city fell. And Gods people were delivered.

After literal OT go to NT and see NT application see the structure etc

The entire scenario is applied symbolicly and globally in Rev. 17:1

Rev 17:1 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, "Come, I will
show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits on many waters.

One of the seven comes to talk to John they poured them out in the previous chapter. Which one?
Who cares? Well it is an important detail we will come back to.
What is a whore in scripture? An apostate church, what does prophecy mean when it says she
fornicates with the kings of the earth? It means that some how she joins church and state she
uses the civil power to accomplish her purposes. What is the name of the harlot woman? What
are the waters upon which she sits? What will the kings end up doing with the harlot?

Rev 17:1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me,
saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth
upon many waters:
Rev 17:2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the
earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

Summary

Which angel, and which plague is this angel explaining? The sixth plague the drying up of the
Euphrates, why is that? Well lets notice the name of the whore, Rev 17:5 Mystery Babylon

Rev 17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE
MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

Babylon.seated on many waters..was ancient Babylon seated on many waters? The Euphrates
river so which plague is being commented on? The only plague that mentions the Euphrates is
the 6th.

However in Revelation the Euphrates is not the literal river in Iraq.

Revelation 17 the key which unlocks the 6th plague, so what do the many waters represent Rev 17:15
Rev 17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are
peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

So is Babylon worldwide? So must Jerusalem be worldwide?

Rev 17 has an interesting scenario, it tells us there that in the end time the whole world will come
together, the knigs and the harlot will be having a great time together fornicating. The
daughters of the harlot will be on the same page, the merchants of the earth on the same page
rev 18. The whole world is in this together to establish the new world order, this millenium of
peace the SOP talks about. All have one mind it says in Rev 17, but suddenly something is going
to happen which will turn the kings of the earth against the harlot with whom they were
fornicating.

Rev 17:16

This is an explanation of the drying up of the Euphrates. In other words those who had supported
her will turn against her.

The act of sitting on the waters does that mean she rules over them? As long as the waters of the
Euphrates are flowing she is safe and secure. But what is going to happen with her base of
support, which is multitudes, nations, tongues and peoples? They aregoing to what? Dry up!
Which means they are going to with draw their support. That is described

Rev 17:16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and
shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.

They are really going to be mad. Something is going to happen that is going to change their
support, there are several Bible stories in the old testament that illustrate this moment. The
story of Esther, a typologic story from the beginning to the end on the deliverance of the saints.
For a while is the King in cahoots with Haman? Yes Does he trust his advisor? Yes! Haman
comes and says there is this people who are scattered all over your kingdom and they dont
have the same laws as we do. Their laws are different than the laws of the king. There is
anarchy if people dont obey the laws of the kingdom so it is not profitable that we should keep
them. Write a decree that they should be killed.king says ok.is he deceived by his religious
advisor? Most certainly is. At some point does he wake up, does he discover that he has been
deceived? Who is his enemy now? And Hamans wife was the shadowy figure behind it. So you
have a vile woman, a king, and a religious figure.

Rev 17 portrays this

Was Herod Decieved? The kings of the world have no idea what they are doing fornicationg with
the Roman Catholic church.

When RC takes over again we will have the dark ages again.not Islam

The 7th plague

Rev 16:17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out
of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.
Rev 16:18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake,
(Remember these phenomenon) such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an
earthquake, and so great.
Rev 16:19 And the great city was divided into three parts, (Babylon has three parts the beast, the
false prophet and the dragon are one system united and is now divided)and the cities of the
nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of
the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
Rev 16:20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.
Rev 16:21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a
talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was
exceeding great.

Now lets to Exdous 14

Exodus 2 & 3 Gods people captive, God said let my people go. The captivity was more difficult
because Gods people wanted to keep the Sabbath.

When Moses said let my people go that we might go into the wilderness for 3 days to worship God,
he was saying they wanted to go out to the wilderness to celebrate the Sabbath. Ellen White
makes that clear, and Pharaoh complained you cause the people to Shabbat or rest. Makes
their bondage worse because they wanted to keep the sabbath. God called hi people and they
came out of Egypt.

But Pharaoh repents of letting them go.

Exo 14:3 For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are entangled in the land, the
wilderness hath shut them in.

They have no escape, Sinai is in Saudi Arabia.

Exo 14:4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured
upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And
they did so.
Exo 14:5 And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his
servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let
Israel go from serving us?
Exo 14:6 And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him:
Exo 14:7 And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over
every one of them.
Exo 14:8 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the
children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand.
Exo 14:9 But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his
horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before
Baalzephon.

Does Israel have any escape at this point? No military organization. No weapons, and Pharaoh is
closing in on them. In themselves they are lost.

Lets notice what happens.

Exodus 14:19

Here is where we are going to catch a glimpse of the last three plagues.

Exo 14:19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind
them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:
Exo 14:20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a
cloud and darkness to them, (There is the 5th plague foreshadowed) but it gave light by night to
these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.

So darkness upon the Egyptians and light on Gods people but the waters of the red sea were still
united. While the waters were united was there any escape for Gods people? No, the waters
had to be divided or dried up, and then the waters would help Gods people. While the wters
were united they were inimical to Gods people. But if they were dried up or divided then they
would help Gods people and provide a way of escape.

Exo 14:21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go
back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were
divided.

Do you remember those two words in revelation? The great city was divided, the waters were
dried up. We have the two key words here. So the waters dry up, does it provide a way of
escape for Gods people? Yes. Lets notice what else happens the waters not only dry up. The
waters dry up and they with draw their support from Pharaoh and his armies, but then the
waters avalanche themselves and drown the Egyptians.

Exo 14:26 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters
may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.

Not only do the waters withdraw their support they then avalanche themselves upon the Egyptians

Exo 14:27 And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength
when the morning appeared; (That is at sun rise, the kings that come from the sunrise) and the
Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.

The Egyptians were swallowed by the waters.

Exo 14:28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host
of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.

Do see a foreshadowing of the 6th plague there?

Where is the 7th plague in this story?

It is not in Exodus 14 it is in Psalms 77

Do you see the importance of following the structure?

Psalm 77 is reminiscing about this experience. Remember what the 7th plague was, Gods voice is
heard and there is thunder, lightening and earthquake and thunderous precipitation. islands
flee

Psa 77:16 The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid: the depths also were
troubled.
Psa 77:17 The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: thine arrows also went abroad.
Psa 77:18 The voice of thy thunder (Gods voice is equated with thunder) was in the heaven: the
lightnings lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook.

Psa 77:19 Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not known.
How do we know that this is talking about the red sea?

Psa 77:20 Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Summarize

There was a voice heard, and thunder, and lightening, and an earthquake and thunderous
precipitation. We have this sequence this structure

Darkness=5th
The waters that are against Gods people dry up=
After they dry up they turn upon the Egyptians=6th
And in ti context we hear a mighty voice thunder, lightening an earthquake, and thunderous
precipitation.

Then when Gods people are on the other side of the sea they sing the song of Moses

Do you understand the importance of the typology, the structure not the events. The sequence of
events.

All you have to do is pray and ask God for guidance and get into the word and study.

The battle is this by fighting against the people of God they are fighting against the God of the
people. That is the true issue. The battle of Armageddon is when the wicked want to destroy gods
people, and God says no no they are my people.

David was the model shepherd in the old testament, he said the Lord is my shepherd, but for Israel
he was the model shepherd. What happened when a lion or bear come to devour one of his lambs?
Did David take it personally? He definitely did. Jesus is the Good shepherd and he steps in, dont
you touch them.

Jesus=Head
When you finger is pricked does the head fell it

Jesus is the husband and the church is the bride

What would you do if someone was beating your bride? Dont touch her she is one flesh with me.

So the end time battle is God intervening to deliver his people from annihilation. Because they
cannot deliver themselves. And they realise the glory is for God

Exo 14:17 And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and
I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his
horsemen.
Exo 14:18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten me honour upon
Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.

We are not going to say in the end time the lord delivered us because we are pretty neat. All the
honour and glory goes to God!! Shad rach, meshach and //abednigo we say aww they were great
young men they obeyed God they were faithful. If God did not interven they were gone. The
honour and glory belongs to the fouth person, Jesus.

Now third perspective

Ellen White

GC 635

Look for the Parrallels

She does not quote the verses but you can tell by the structure, the sequence of events that she is
commenting on these last three plagues.

Chap. 40 - God's People Delivered

When the protection of human laws shall be withdrawn from those who honor the law of God,
there will be, in different lands, a simultaneous movement for their destruction. (Pharaoh and his
armies) As the time appointed in the decree draws near, the people will conspire to root out the
hated sect. It will be determined to strike in one night a decisive blow, which shall utterly silence
the voice of dissent and reproof. {GC 635.1}
The people of God--some in prison cells, some hidden in solitary retreats in the forests and the
mountains--still plead for divine protection, while in every quarter companies of armed men, urged
on by hosts of evil angels, are preparing for the work of death. (Similar to what Pharaoh was
coming to do) It is now, in the hour of utmost extremity, that the God of Israel will interpose for the
deliverance of His chosen. (Skip to next Para) Saith the Lord; "Ye shall have a song, as in the night
when a holy solemnity is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goeth . . . to come into the
mountain of the Lord, to the Mighty One of Israel. And the Lord shall cause His glorious voice to
be heard, and shall show the lighting down of His arm, with the indignation of His anger, and with
the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones." Isaiah 30:29, 30. {GC
635.2}
With shouts of triumph, jeering, and imprecation, throngs of evil men are about to rush upon
their prey, (What is it that rushes, waters rush,

Isa 17:12 Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and
to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!
Isa 17:13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and
they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and
like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.
)

when, lo, a dense blackness, deeper than the darkness of the night, falls upon the earth. (Plague
5)Then a rainbow, shining with the glory from the throne of God, spans the heavens and seems to
encircle each praying company. (Darkness upon wicked but on Gods people light Exodus 14) The
angry multitudes are suddenly arrested. (What does that mean, they dry up. She is not using the
terms or verses) Their mocking cries die away. The objects of their murderous rage are forgotten.

(In the next chapter she does what the Bible does frequently she amplifies the picture)

Notice what she has to say in GC 655-656

The people (waters) see that they have been deluded. They accuse one another of having led them to
destruction; but all unite in heaping their bitterest condemnation upon the ministers. (Harlot and
Daughters) Unfaithful pastors have prophesied smooth things; they have led their hearers to make
void the law of God and to
656
persecute those who would keep it holy. Now, in their despair, these teachers confess before the
world their work of deception. The multitudes are filled with fury. "We are lost!" they cry, "and you
are the cause of our ruin;" and they turn upon the false shepherds. The very ones that once admired
them most will pronounce the most dreadful curses upon them. The very hands that once crowned
them with laurels will be raised for their destruction. The swords which were to slay God's people
are now employed to destroy their enemies. (Remember Zech 14) Everywhere there is strife and
bloodshed. {GC 655.4}
on page 657 Ellen White quotes Zech 14 referring to this moment.

Do you see the pattern, the wicked are ready to rush on Gods people, there is Pharaoh and his
armies, but then darkness falls, light for Gods people and the multitudes are arrested as the waters
are dried up. Then the waters drown those who deceived them. Then Ellen White goes on to
describe the seventh plague.

Bottom page 636 & 637 in the midst of the angry heavens is one clear space of indescribable glory,
whence comes the voice of God like the sound of many waters, saying: "It is done." Revelation
16:17. {GC 636.2}
That voice shakes the heavens and the earth. There is a
637
mighty earthquake, "such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and
so great." Verses 17, 18.God says It is done

Ellen White quotes the 7th plague there and you think well maybe I should go to the preceding pages
to find Plagues 5 & 6 Working by deduction

The firmament appears to open and shut. The glory from the throne of God seems flashing through.
The mountains shake like a reed in the wind, and ragged rocks are scattered on every side. There is
a roar as of a coming tempest. The sea is lashed into fury. There is heard the shriek of a hurricane
like the voice of demons upon a mission of destruction. The whole earth heaves and swells like the
waves of the sea. Its surface is breaking up. Its very foundations seem to be giving way. Mountain
chains are sinking. Inhabited islands disappear.

The seaports that have become like Sodom for wickedness are swallowed up by the angry waters.
Babylon the great has come in remembrance before God, "to give unto her the cup of the wine of
the fierceness of His wrath." Great hailstones, every one "about the weight of a talent," are doing
their work of destruction. Verses 19, 21.

A little later she describes how Gods people will sing the song of Moses and the Lamb

Does this help you to understand typology

Daniel 11
