OUR EAST-WEST DENIM is created using the
finest resources from the U.S. and Japan.
We begin by sourcing high-quality, Tennessee-grown
cottonknown in our business for producing long, uneven
yarnsthen we ship it to Okayama, Japan, for spinning.
There, the factory we work with produces ringspun yarns
using equipment theyve had for more than 80 years, resulting
in yarns with great integrity and a natural loft. Next, the
yarns are rope-dyed with natural indigo that we specially
develop to impart a red/blue caste inspired by vintage denim
from the 1930s. The final color is deep yet vibrant. Then the
yarns are woven into 16 oz. denim using vintage hanger-style
wooden shuttle looms. This denim is woven using a low-tension
technique to create an uneven, vintage texture that will fade
perfectly over time.
Once finished, the fabric is sent back to the United
States for the final phase of garment productioncutting,
sewing and finishing by hand. Discerning clients can identify
the finished jeans by their distinctive 1930s-style selvedge line,
which features dark red yarns running along the edge of the
interior outseams.

 In 1884, three artists met at Acadmie Julian in Paris. One evening, Joseph Sharp, then
35, regaled Bert Phillips and Ernest Blumenschein, both in their twenties, with stories of his
time spent in Taos, New Mexico, illuminating its landscape and culture.
Fourteen years later, in 1898, Blumenschein and Phillips went to Taos themselves and
Phillips immediately took up residence. Blumenschein would not move there until 1919, though
he visited frequently, while Sharp made Taos his permanent home in 1908.
By 1915, the trio had been joined by three other artists, and the Society was officially
founded. They began sending their work, focused on the landscape, culture and people of Taos,
to exhibitions across the country, turning Taos into a destination for artists and art lovers alike.
The Taos Society of Artists ended in 1927 with 12 active members, including Bert
Phillips, Ernest Blumenschein, Eanger Irving Couse, Joseph Henry Sharp, Oscar Berninghaus
and Herbert Duntonthe original sixwho were later joined by Julius Rolshoven, Walter
Ufer, Victor Higgins, Martin Hennings, Kenneth Adams and Catherine Critcher.

 Born in 1878, Glenn Hammond Curtiss is known for his innovations in aircraft,
particularly his role in demonstrating the practical value of flying through his flight
between Albany and New York City in 1910, as well as his influence on naval aviation.
He began with motorcycles in 1902, when he and three employees made motorized
bikes under the name Hercules. On January 23, 1907, Curtiss earned the title of Fastest
Man on Earth when he rode his bike at 136.3 mph on a measured-mile ride in Florida.
That same year, he became a member of the Aerial Experiment Association,
a club whose goal was successful aviation. A year later, he piloted his plane June
Bug across Pleasant Valley, New York, the first officially recognized, publicly observed
flight in the U.S.
Next, his highly publicized 1910 flight between Albany and New York City
affirmed planes as a realistic mode of transport. He would later advise the U.S. Army
and Navy on aerial bombing and seaplane design, finally becoming the first pilot to
successfully cross the Atlantic Ocean in 1919.

F. Sleeves are lined with signature Bemberg stripe, which is

A. Back collar seam is internally bound to maintain a smooth
and consistent fit.
B. Front and top shoulder seams are internally bound to ensure a
smooth finish that will not stretch. This forces the extra fabric in
the sleeve armhole and jacket-back to the back for a comfortable
fit through the shoulders.
C. Shoulder pads (consisting of padding between two layers of
cotton, with an internal layer of camel hair and wool) extend
past the sleeve hole, and are hand-trimmed and joined to a
padded sleeve-head for a natural ropey shoulder finish.
D. Half-canvas construction consists of a floating chest pad made
from two cotton/wool blend woven layers with an internal layer
of camel hair and wool. This pad is attached at the shoulder-
seam, and provides the shape and structure through the chest.
The balance of the jacket front has a fused lining.
E. High armholes provide a trim and comfortable fit.

K. Buttons are made from natural horn, or traditional Casein.
Casein plastics were introduced at the beginning of the 20th century,
their starting material being the protein in cow's milk, precipitated
by the action of the enzyme rennin. Casein buttons are traditional
tailoring trim.
L. Sleeve button-holes are unfinished, to allow for alteration to
the length before being made functional.
