-Introduces class to the constitution
-Reviews how we are now independent
from great Brittan
-Who can tell me what a constitution is
or does or what you know about it?
-Kid: answered the rights, bill of rights
-Teacher goes over different rights we
have as citizens
-What else does the constitution have?
Kid: rules
Teacher shows a chart that has a point
that says rules we follow and then she
said this happened after we broke away
from great Brittan so we could gain
independence
After we gained freedom we had to
figure out are own rules and laws.
Did you know that NC has their own
constitution
-NC has had 3 constitutions
Why do you think they have had three
constitutions
Kid: federal, state, teacher said no
Everybody in the NC has to follow the
constitution and each state has laws

Methods Classes
- They have social studies
notebooks
- I loved that she made
connections to the students while
reviewing the lesson. This helps
students relate to the lesson on a
deeper level
- She allowed students to have
time to think about their answers
before answering.
- By allowing the students to
answer each others questions
the classroom is more engaged.
- Instead of just standing in front
of the classroom she really
encourages all of her students to
be apart of the lesson and
engages them.
- I loved the Liberty Kids video it
was informative and entertaining.
The students were engaged in
the show and it offered them a
different way to gain information,
other than just from the teacher.

Kid: things change

NC has had to change it up 3 times

when we change it its called. Gives
definition: amendments (changes to the
constitution)

They just add more details not just

throw it away

They make the amendment then add it

into the writing.

Brings up how in 7th or 8th grade you will

focus on NC government more in depth
this is just highlights

Brings up Washington dc and see it in

the museum

Tells how it was wrote in the 1700s

Has replica of the constitution

-Liberty kids video: shows setting up

and working on the constitution.

Massachuetts, Matthew chase cant pay

debts 3 years after the war. Borrowed
money from the government because
the govt told him too. He was a farmer.
Got thrown in jail.

Ben franklin lead story: delecates of the

13 colonies meet I Philadelphia. May 7
1777.

Virginia, James madison feb 1787.

Daniel shay lead attack because govt
took away their land. Farmers in
Maryland destroy tax records to gain
freedom. In virgina they destroyed
court house. The current system of govt
wasnt working and they needed a cure.

May 1787. Delicates arrive. Had to

throw out the articles of confederation.
Wanted strong central govt. They want
a whole new constitution and 13 states
have to agree and not many had
abolished slavery. 6 years under the
articles of confederation. Alexander
Hamilton strong central govt. Civil war
abolished slavery.
