OPTION A: CONCEIVING CHILDREN: PROCESS AND CHOICE

Select a topic from the text and conduct some independent Internet research. Topics may
include infertility, reproductive technologies, gendered perspectives on fertility and
reproduction, reproductive choice, abortion, childbirth options, medical interventions
during childbirth, fathers and fertility, the rights of mother and fetus, the impact of
technology on reproductive implications, sperm banks, and reproductive ethics. What did
you learn? Report on your findings.

Abortion has become quite a sensitive topic to discuss about for the past decade or
so, mainly because what it involves and how people view the aspects of or practices in
which it partakes. On the other hand, in some cases, due to the fact of how abortions were
performed in the past concerned many people: what it did to the fetus or how it affected
the mothers health, physically and emotionally. Furthermore, despite religious beliefs
and cultural viewpoints, many people still argue right to left that abortion is something
we should not consider because of nurturing human behavior, or if a woman is put into a
situation and she how no intentions of raising a child, she should contemplate about
having an abortion for the sake of her life.
In todays society, abortion is seen as something vile and inhumane. Those who
oppose the treatment claim that it is downright murder. Out of respect, women who do
choose to have an abortion at an early stage before the fetus can develop any farther, are
labeled as killers. Even on social media, people are constantly talking about this topic,
most of them furious and saying awful things; that list can go on endlessly, but overall,
these people usually do not understand or even think twice about why women and
couples have abortions.

For instance, raising a child costs a lot of money; financially, young couples who
do get pregnant might consider setting the child up for adoption when he or she is born.
Others think the other way. For instance, if a woman is raped, tortured or forced to have
sex with a strange man, and he conceives a baby with her, she has the right to choose
whether or not she wants to have the child. On top of that, go through a pregnancy she
did not intend to have, or think about how this will affect the child later on in his or her
life.
So we have to reconsider the facts based on the individual and their position
before jumping to conclusions or judging them for wanting to have an abortion. Others
have argued adoption is the way if the mother or couple made the choice of not raising
the child depending on the situation. Most Americans, in fact, do prohibit the treatments
for abortions by 59%, which is a big deal (Jeffrey). Moreover, according to Justice Harry
Blackmun, who was appointed by President Richard Nixon back in the day, stated an
unborn child is still a human, living person, and circumstances of aborting that child
should not tolerate any sources for killing an innocent being (Jeffrey).
Today, many states have passed laws to protect these young babies that are
coming into the world. Some states even have strict laws claiming that no matter what the
situation is, abortion is still illegal and will not be recognized by that state government
(Knox and Milstein 316).
Finally, let us revaluate the decisions these women or couples decide. With the
circumstances that might prohibit some folks from even having any medical access to
treatment, having an abortion might just save someones life. People suffer everyday, and
if that certain individual does not want to be a parent, they still have the right to make a
choice for them. When we look at a fetuss development from within the womb, it takes
several months for it to be even called a human. But then again, people will believe what
they want to believe when it comes to living organisms. However, understanding peoples
choices does help to a minimum, but we also need to approach these problems in a
different manner so they are not labeled as a criminal. Otherwise, we will not be able to
move on, resulting in other consequences.
