COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Dog poo. Its everywhere: on the sidewalk, on the
lawn, and on the soles of your shoes. But that soon may change. The
Belford College Board of Trustees, in response to hundreds of
complaints, is considering a new regulation declaring the campus off-
limits to dogs.
This stinks, Wheeler says. I mean, this school smells like dog doo.
Irresponsible pet owners are letting their dogs chase cyclists, bard, and
crap all over campus.
Last week, the schools landscaping crew- which students call the
poop patrol- tried posting signs saying, NO DOGS ALLOWED.
Students tore them down as tempers have started to flare.
This proposal is ugly and unfair to responsible dog owners like me,
says junior Juliet Sims. I admit theres too much poop on the
sidewalks, but its wrong to let a few bad apples ruin it for everybody.
A ban on dogs would pose a painful dilemma for dog-lovers like Sims.
Sims lives off campus with a Golden Retriever named Romeo. Hes my
sweetie, she says. He sleeps with me, eats with me, and showers
with me. He even goes to class with me.
To resolve the dispute, the board will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m.
Thursday in Belford Union, Room 11.
