More than one of these articles suggested that interactive should be individualized

to each student and those students should be involved in the creation of their own

interactive notebook. Some of these articles were based on data collected from the

implementation of interactive notebooks in a high school setting, which would create a

different result from one that I may end up with in a first grade classroom. I definitely

plan on allowing students choice in how they complete their interactive notebook, but to

allow them total control of the creation of the notebook might encourage an un organized

environment that would be more harmful than beneficial. I believe allowing students the

freedom to draw, write, cut, paste, color, or anything of the like will allow for them to

creatively interpret new concepts in order to set them into memory.

A couple of these articles mentioned the use of Howard Gardners Multiple

Intellegences in order to individualize a students way of learning through the use of

interactive notebooks. This is a tool to use when trying to differentiate for the eclectic

group of students that I have in my classroom. Also, many of the articles mentioned that a

benefit of utilizing interactive notebooks is organization skills for students. Being able to

organize and graph thoughts and new ideas in a notebook, students can better organize

their thoughts and other aspects of their life. Thus, the actions I decided to take based on

the literature were to dig deeper into the research behind Howard Gardners Multiple

Intellegences, prepare individualized entries for the interactive notebooks that allow

students to make their own choices, and require students to review their entries to both

ensure they are neat and organized and to recall and retain information for long term

memory.
