Caitlin provides adequate content information for student academic growth. She will continue to grow in content
knowledge as she becomes more familiar with the curriculum she is teaching. She should take initiative to learn as
much about her grade-level curriculum as she can by accessing resources provided by the school division as well as
the Virginia Department of Education. Being more familiar with the curriculum content will allow Caitlin to better respond
to student questions on the spot.

Caitlin has a solid grasp on lesson planning. Caitlin plans for the differing learning needs within her classroom. She has
primarily done this through small group instruction. She experiences some difficulty adapting plans as needed during
instruction when things are going according to plan. She continues to practice effective lesson pacing, especially in
regards to dealing with student behavior quickly and getting students back to the lesson at hand.

As Caitlin began more whole-group instruction, she saw the challenges in keeping students engaged in active learning
during that whole-group instruction, due to pacing and classroom management challenges. She is proficient at keeping
students engage during small-group instruction. Caitlin continues to learn new instructional strategies each day. She will
continue to locate new resources/strategies and implement those in her classroom for a wider variety.

Caitlin's plans indicate that she is assessing students on an ongoing basis during small-group and whole-group
instruction. Caitlin may be using student learning data to make instructional decisions. However, we have not focused
our discussions on the ways that she is using data because our discussions have focused in other areas of instruction
and behavior management. I look forward to Caitlin sharing how she is using student learning data to make instructional
decisions.

Caitlin has shown growth and continues to grow in the area of classroom management. She will learn to become an
firm, positive, authoritative teacher as she practices these skills. This placement presented her with great challenges in
the area of behavior management. She has not given up yet and she will continue to keep learning and growing in
regards to managing a group of 5th grade students.

Caitlin took initiative with lesson planning from the start of this placement. She began small-group lesson planning the
second week of the placement. She is open to constructive feedback and makes an effort to try out suggestions. She
has stayed in constant communication with her cooperating teacher and me throughout the placement in an effort to
improve in the teaching practice. She seeks others for guidance.

Because we have been focused on Caitlin's improvement in the areas of classroom management and lesson delivery,
we have not yet focused on this area of teaching during my site visits. Caitlin has provided evidence that she is
documenting student progress during reading groups through making anecdotal notes.

I am very proud of Caitlin and the progress she has made so far given the challenges she encountered in her first eight
weeks of student teaching. She did not give up and came to work every day!
