Students will explore and develop their own responses to the following essential questions as they relate to art and cultural differences.

1. How does artwork differ from culture to culture?

Unit Summary:

Students will solve a compositional problem that involves the effective use of merging two cultural art images together. Balancing the distribution of
the visual weight of objects, colors, texture, and space. Identifying similarities and differences in the purpose of the art created in selected cultures.
The arts represent an outlet of expression that is usually influenced by culture and which in turn helps to change
culture. Culture can be observed on a daily basis. However some forms of culture art are only performed at specific
times, events, or places.
In this unit we will be uncovering different cultural styles of artwork. Students will solve a visual arts problem that
involves the use of composition and merging two cultural artworks into one cohesive piece of artwork. Using colored
pencils to create layers of color connections to their cultural arts. Analyzing and describing how the composition of the
work of art is affected by the use of space and color. Using tone and value to build up layers of color to define form.
Students will be identifying similarities and differences in the purpose of art created in selected cultures, and clearly
state why they chose the cultures they did.
