introduction
Agriculture is the main source of livelihood in India
It contributes to only 14.4% of GDP and 10.23% of all exports
The cradle of the success has been the establishment of
institutions of higher agricultural education
Worldwide agriculture is becoming competitive. Price and brand
equity have become more prominent than before
Infusion of frontier science, good practices of trade, market
intelligence techniques have become more important to promote
efficiency, awareness, equity, and competitiveness in agriculture
About The Organization

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an

autonomous organization under the Department of Agriculture
Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture. Established in
1929, the organization has 99 institutes and 53 universities spread
across the country. It has played a major role in promoting
excellence in education and research in agriculture.

Most of the ICAR Universities have slackened owing mainly

to inadequate modern infrastructure for education and
research
The present situation demands a renewed thrust and
relevance
Development and institutionalization of easily accessible
and user-friendly knowledge systems to support decision making
by various client groups has become necessary
It has become important to generate globally competitive
human resource
Organization Motives
Effort of poverty reduction
Economic development must address the problems being faced by the agricultural sector
To turn the challenges into economic opportunities for the urban poor
To address both the emerging areas of agriculture which would be:
Consolidating technology gains
Improved farming experiences.
To fulfill the need for agricultural graduates and provide a class of services such as diagnostic
laboratories, advisories on new innovations and markets.

Location
Pune has also emerged as a business centre. The
hinterland of Pune witnesses intense farming of sugar
and grapes, horticulture, and floriculture.

Given the distinctive characteristics of this

industry, many value-added industries like food
processing have flourished in and around Pune. Pune
has a locational advantage, being close to several
demand driven markets such as
Mumbai, Nasik, Nagpur, and Aurangabad.
Poona The Queen of Deccan
Pune, derived from its ancestral name Poona. A city which
now is a technological hub of India has always served the
empires as a centre due to its location and accessibility.

The Mula and Mutha rivers which crosses the city right from
the centre was the reason for agricultural land and the active
agricultural activities present in the region.

Its development index is one of the highest in

India
The literacy rate of the town according to
Census 2011 was 81.6%
The climate is variable yet suitable for multiple
types of crops to grow
The abundance of farmers in the proximity
The advent of foreign capital particularly in
research oriented, agriculture based industries

Infrastructure will be given a boost to support the Horizontal Agriculture Beds and a Waste Re-
mediation Building

Usage of new age technology through architectural elements will be incorporated for the
modernization
The support from the XII Plan scheme laid out by ICAR in the National Agricultural
Education Project - 2012 is thus:

Agricultural education will be concentrating mainly on market research oriented

development

Need to shift from primary to secondary agriculture and non land based activities

Rs. 15.00 crore for 5 years per Centre for equipment, infrastructure, consultancy and
training (both national and international)
The methodology is the systematic approach to be followed

motive

Need for integrating agricultural education with job creation

Setting up of Agri-clinics and Agri-business Centers across the length and breadth of the
country in a Public-Private Partnership (PPP)

A holistic program including farmers and consumers would be on the relevance and utility of
agricultural S&T activities and programs

Agricultural Education will need to be enriched with real life subjects and an exposure to the
market
Provide the campus with a Research Institute

Development of a large scale Commercial plaza scope

Make a high-end research laboratory

Develop a Waste Re-mediation Centre

Creating a Greenhouse Development Centre

Develop a compressed urban farming landscape

Bringing together the services

Self sustainable typology study and its needs

Integration of the Processing and Storage facility

Obtain a socio-cultural development program

Work on the following elements during design:

Green Roof Systems
Evolve Lighting Techniques for the plaza
Interactive spaces
challenges

Integration of a set of mixed use elements which include the Institute, the
Commercial Plaza and the Research Facility should be separated yet accessibly
together

With a whole new program and specific public community to target, the
efforts will go into making people aware of it and reap its benefits

Developing well adaptable spaces out of a mixed use building typology

Use of the commercial plaza to attract the public

objectives

Focus on a programme oriented research institute

Ensuring a well connected campus

Increase the green edifice of the city that has faced a transformation into a concrete jungle

Giving the region a new distinctive atmosphere

All-round growth by following the ICAR Education Department guidelines

Transformation of the commercial activity

Develop a community level recreational space

NEED FOR THIS TYPOLOGY

Ever decreasing arable lands and increasing distances to

those that remain

Depleted and missing farms leave larger and larger urban

populations at the mercy of supply disruptions

The advent of an increased farmer input in the district

ADVANCED OBJECTIVE - UNIFYING IDEA

Produce>market>income>growth>profits>research virtuous
cycle

Co-individuals and groups will work on the properties and

within the urban farm space to refine technologies and
methods

To improve and sustain quality of higher agricultural system

To reap the profits and finally give it back to the farmers
