1. Assessment of Knowledge of Laws:


Students will form in groups of 4-5 to create reasonable laws
they wish to implement in the classroom. Students may create a
minimum of detailed 5 laws to present to the classroom. These laws
will then be documented on poster paper. During this classroom
presentation, students will explain the significance their laws would
bring to the classroom. Students will also be required to explain to the
class the significance of having rules/laws in a community.
I will assess the students through the question, is this actually a
law I can successfully implement in the classroom? I will also assess
how they explain the importance of the law in the classroom. The main
aspect I will be assessing however is their explanation for the
importance of rules/laws in the community.
Accommodation: The group containing the student in need of
accommodation will be able to work outside the classroom (separate
room/in the hall) for a less noisy and less distracting environment.
Examples:
1. On Wednesdays we wear pink.
2. If a student did not complete their homework, they cannot attend
half of recess time.
3. No homework on Fridays.

maximize the likeliness of comprehension.

3. Three Branches of Government Research:
Students will be divided into three large groups and assigned a
branch of government to further research. Students are able to utilize
iPads, laptops, and books to recover information. This information will
then be put into a Powerpoint so students can teach their peers about
their branch of government.
Students will be assessed through the information they present
in their Powerpoints. Students will also be informally evaluated by
answering questions about their branch of government.
Accommodations: The student will be asked questions the teacher
knows they are capable of answering. Also during group work, this
group is permitted to work in a secluded area.

4. USA Symbol Search


Students will independently search magazines newspapers, and
the web to find as many symbols that represent the US. Students will
cut and print out all that they find then paste onto a larger piece of
paper. The student that finds the most accurate symbols will win.
Students will be assessed by the accuracy of their chosen
symbols. Students will also be asked to give a brief explanation as to
why they choose particular symbols.
Accommodations: The student will have the option to work in a
different area of the classroom or take a friend out in the hall with
them.
