Reflective Essay

Since I have taken composition one last semester and composition two this semester, I

have taken all the learning of importance of brainstorming, aspects of organizing within writing,

and revising and collaborating in writing from these two classes. English is a subject that has

provided a gateway for me and many students to express themselves, learn its literature, and

proper grammar as well. It is important for me and other students to reflect on what we learned

through our learning experience throughout taking these classes. What I am going to discuss are

the methods of learning that I have succeeded during my two semesters and which areas I need

to improve on, for preparation throughout the rest of my college courses I must take to graduate

with my associates and bachelors for the career I am aiming for.

When I started composition one during the fall semester I realized I was struggling with

grammar issues and sometimes not understanding the topics of an essay we were assigned to do.

This semester during composition two, I have a better idea of the work we have done throughout

the semester and my grammar has somewhat improved. I felt more comfortable with writing the

essays we were assigned to do, but my favorite essay this semester was my causal paper. I felt

successful after I turned in that essay because I felt my work was so much better than previous

essays in the past and far better than Rhetorical essay. Yes, I had errors and issues throughout

each paper I wrote this semester. For example, in my causal essay, there were a couple of

sentences that I wrote that did not make any sense and the grammar was just not right. A study

about teens isolation from University of Houston mentioned, and I gave a quote after that

sentence. After peer review my fellow classmate helped me reflect on that sentence and I came

up with a better way to reword that sentence correctly.

I feel more comfortable writing essays now because of all the work I have accomplished

this semester in composition two. Many assignments such as short academic responses helped

me learn communication as well, because I could express what I feel about certain questions that

were assigned to me. Turning in optional rough drafts and having peer reviews helped me fix

certain errors I had in my three major essays this semester. Not only did it help me, but it helped

my fellow classmates as well. My professor and classmates giving me feedback on my work is

very important to me, because I benefitted well from it.

After all the challenging work throughout this semester, my communication skills have

improved throughout my work in each class I have taken this semester. I feel more comfortable

to the idea of being able to write an essay without struggling as much as I did last semester. I will

be able to identify mistakes that I usually struggle with later throughout my education in the

future. It has been great having the same professor for two semesters, because I was familiar with

her expectations from the previous semester and that has helped me get through this last semester

with her. I am glad to say that I have received proper English communication skills from her

class and I will take this all throughout my future classes.
