Project: PSI-AHRN Myanmar collaboration on IDU under the Gates Foundation support in
Myanmar

About AHRN
The Asian Harm Reduction Network (AHRN) is a regional information and support network involved
in supporting the organizations and individuals working towards the prevention of HIV transmission
and the reduction of other harms associated with drug use in Asia through networking, information
sharing, advocacy, training and capacity building, program and policy development and more
recently research.

In Myanmar, the Asian Harm Reduction Network (AHRN)-Myanmar is one of the International Non-
Governmental organizations involved in promotion and implementation of harm reduction
programme to reduce HIV transmission among people (injecting) drugs, their (sexual) partners and
the communities through advocacy, capacity building, trainings and service provisions.

The Project
AHRN in Myanmar is the process of expanding its existing harm reduction activities using innovative
approaches such as “Switch Campaign” and “Social Marketing” of risk reduction commodities as part
of joint PSI-AHRN collaboration on injecting drug use under the Gates Foundation support in
Myanmar. This project is a three year intervention. The project activities include pre implementation
assessment of high-risk situation, assessment of public-private partners, development of IEC,
distribution of risk reduction commodities through social marketing, prevention and management of
relapse and health education sessions among (injecting) drug users and impact evaluation of overall
activities.

The Position
AHRN is looking for highly motivated and reliable individuals who are keen to be part of an active
team/organisation that delivers wide range of services to improve the health of vulnerable people.

The following positions are based in Yangon with extensive traveling to designated project sites.
1. Project Supervisor (01 position) based in Yangon;

Primary Tasks:
In consultation with Technical Director and Technical Advisor supervise and ensure timely
implementation of all activities under PSI-AHRN Myanmar collaboration on IDU under the Gates
Foundation funds. They include:
- advocacy on project activities at project sites level and central level;
- training need assessment of team members, periodical performance evaluation of staff
recruited under the PSI-AHRN activities;
- set up a clearly defined line of communication within team for effective implementation of
project activities;
- part of team to develop activities;

- part of team to develop tools for administration and analysis of all surveys & assessments to
be undertaken under the PSI-AHRN activities;
- develop and supervise required M&E system to record project activities under PSI-AHRN
activities;
- represent PSI-AHRN project activities at different level (i.e. national, regional and
international);
- any other tasks needed for implementation of the PSI-AHRN activities.
Responsible for showing adherence to AHRN Standard Operating Procedures Manual at all level
of operations, including responsible handling of AHRN property and equipment;
Performing other tasks related to PSI-AHRN Myanmar collaboration on IDU under the Gates
Foundation funds and AHRN Myanmar national operations identified/designated by the AHRN
Technical Director;

Personal and Professional Requirement


Advance/Bachelor degree in public health, development studies or social sciences or extensive
experience in harm reduction service delivery;
2-3 years relevant experience in project implementation in diverse settings and preferably
related to HIV and AIDS prevention and care programs for people using drugs in resource
constrained settings;
Understanding of the work of NGOs in Myanmar, preferably the work of drug user organisations;
Understanding of the drug use and HIV situation in Myanmar;
Suitable attitude towards people using drugs and people living with HIV;
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills in Myanmar and English;
Confident public speaker and capable of facilitating advocacy meetings, training sessions and
expanding networking in throughout Myanmar;
Relevant basic skills in the use of computers is distinctly advantageous;
Ability to be a reliable team player;

Additional Information
Initial contract will be for one year (depends upon successful completion of three months
probationary period) with an option for extension, upon positive evaluation and budget
availability;
