PLANNING
List the Common Core/State Standard(s) to be addressed in this lesson:

6. Technology operations and concepts

Students demonstrate a sound understanding
of technology concepts, systems, and operations.
a. Understand and use technology systems
b. Select and use applications effectively
and productively
c. Troubleshoot systems and applications
d. Transfer current knowledge to learning
of new technologies
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.4.1.A
Introduce a topic or text clearly, state an opinion, and create an organizational
structure in which related ideas are grouped to support the writer's purpose.

List the Learning Objective(s) to be addressed in this lesson. Use the

following format: Students will be able to

Students will be able to use Google PowerPoint in order to work with group
members to create a presentation.
Students will be able to choose a topic and apply their previous knowledge to that
topic.
Students will be able to state an opinion on a topic and organize a PowerPoint in
order to group their ideas.

Describe how the objective is relevant to students lives.

This is relevant to the students life because they will need to be able to use these
skills as they get older and further their knowledge in writing and technology.
They should be able to introduce a text clearly because as they advance in
school, the writing gets more difficult.

List the words relevant to the content area that you will either introduce
and/or review during your lesson.

List the materials you will need to teach the lesson.

iPads, computers, SMART Board, Pencils, Notebook

ASSESSMENT
Pre-Assessment: Describe the instrument or process you will use to
measure students level of understanding toward the learning objective(s)
prior to teaching the lesson.

APPENDIX: Include a blank copy of the lesson pre-assessment. (if

applicable)

Is your pre-assessment included at the end of this lesson plan?

Describe the timeline as to when you plan to administer the pre-

assessment?
(Recommended timeline is a minimum of two days prior to teaching your
lesson).

Create and insert a table/chart/graph that shows the pre-assessment data

results. (if applicable)
Insert an image of your table/chart/graph here.
Describe how the results of the pre-assessment (what the students have
demonstrated they know) will be used to design the lesson objectives,
instruction, and post-assessment.

Post-Assessment: APPENDIX: Include a blank copy of the lesson post-assessment

you will use to measure students level of understanding toward the learning objectives after
teaching the lesson.

Is your post-assessment included at the end of this lesson plan?

APPENDIX: Include a copy of a Key/Product (completed by you, the teacher) which

provides a model of the desired outcome.

Is your key included at the end of this lesson plan?

TECHNOLOGY
Describe the instructional and/or assistive technology that you plan to
incorporate into the lesson to enhance instruction and student learning.

I will use the SMART Board to show them how to use Google PowerPoint to
create a presentation.
I will show the students through SMART Board the lesson that needs to be
taught in order for them to create a PowerPoint.
Students will use either their iPads or laptops to follow along so that they
know what they are doing when they are on their own.
The students will also use their iPad or Laptop to look up a topic that they
are interested in.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Describe the accommodations/differentiation/modifications you will use to
meet the needs of all learners and accommodate differences in students
learning, culture, language, etc. * Be sure that these accommodations are
based on what you identified/described in your contextual information
(Task I).

I will have prior knowledge to any IEPs for individuals that I might have in my
classroom. I will make sure that the information presented is large enough for all
my students to see and make sure my voice is clear enough for everyone to hear.
For those who need the text on their iPads or Computers larger, I will help them
change that before letting them work on their own. If they need the extra help on
creating a PowerPoint, I will assign an instructional helper to help them.

MANAGEMENT
Identify the management and motivational strategies you will use to meet student
behavioral/developmental needs in order to keep students on task and actively engaged
throughout the lesson.

I will manage the class by being actively engaged with the students when they
are working independently. This will include walking around the classroom,
redirecting inappropriate behavior and answering any questions that students
might have. If I have to redirect the whole class I will go over the directions and
my expectations from them when they are working independently. I will also use
call back ques to gain their full attention. For this lesson, I will check on the
progress of their presentations to make sure that they are using it the correct way.

LESSON IMPLEMENTATION
I Do
(Teacher introduces lesson and models expected outcome of
learning objectives)
Describe how you will activate student interest and present the learning
objective in an engaging way (this is your lesson opening).
Anchor- To gain the students interest in this assignment, I will show them
previous PowerPoints that have been completed. This should spike their
interest in this assignment. By showing them examples of previous
PowerPoints, it should give them an idea of what I expect from them.
Task- After showing them what we are going to be doing, I will then begin
the lesson by introducing it to them. I will group students together so that
they can work together to create a PowerPoint Presentation on a topic that I
have approved. After the students are in their groups I will go over the
terms that they need to know, which as topic, opinion, and organization.
After I go over the vocabulary terms with the students, I will begin
explaining to them what the directions and requirements are for this lesson.
For each term I will model what they look like.
Directions- By using the SMART Board, I will show them step by step
directions on how to start their projects. All of the students will need to log
in to their Google Accounts. I have designated one student in each group to
start the PowerPoint and then share it with the rest of their group. Once the
students are logged on and the project has been shared with all the
members, they will title a few of the slides. These titles will include: the
topic, the group opinion on the topic, and individual opinions. They are
required to have 6 slides, so they will be in charge of naming the last 3
slides and putting useful information on them.
After I finish explaining the lesson, I will model examples and non-examples
of what I expect from them.
I expect a 6 slide PowerPoint that has educational resources that can be
found in books or on the internet. The slides need to be organized and
creative. I dont want to see a boring slideshow. The opinions need to be
written in complete sentences in order to receive full credit. Pictures are
recommended on the slides.
Teacher coaching and Feedback- While the students are working in their
groups, I will walk around and answer any questions that they have. I will
also give them feedback on the progress that theyve made in their
presentation. If I see any areas that need improvement I will suggest ideas.

Describe how you will communicate (to students) how the objective is
relevant to their lives.
I will show my students examples and non-examples of other students
PowerPoints that have been made to fit this lesson. By showing the students the
non-examples, they should see the objective of having an organized and
informational PowerPoint. With the examples, I will show them how important
education information can be and how it can affect the outcome of a presentation.
Describe what instructional strategies you will use to
model/explain/demonstrate the knowledge and skills required of the
objective. (cite theories/theorists)
I will provide demonstrations on the Smartboard and provide information on what
should be included in the lesson. I will also demonstrate to them what a topic is
and how it can be found. I will model techniques that the students can use in
order to make their PowerPoints appealing to the audience.
Describe how you will check for students understanding before moving on
to guided practice.
I will ask the students if they have any questions about what is going on
before moving on to the next step of the lesson.
If there are any questions or confusion, I will go back and address the
information again so that all the students understand it.
I will model what the students should be doing by giving them examples
and non-examples.

We Do
(Teacher engages students in guided practice)
Describe the learning activities you will use to provide students multiple opportunities to
practice the skills and content needed to meet the learning objective(s).
As a class, we will review the vocabulary terms so that each student knows
what they are expected to be doing.
We will go around the classroom and brainstorm topic ideas. After we go
around the class and brainstorm, I will give the students a worksheet that
we will fill out together. The worksheet will have the group members name,
the definitions given to the vocabulary terms and their idea of what they
imagine their presentation will look like in the end.
As stated in the I do section of the lesson plan, we will go over the steps
on how to log in to the students google accounts and where they can find
PowerPoint.
Together we will go though some of the basic tools that are provided on
PowerPoint and how to add pictures. For this lesson, the students will need
to provide the websites that they used to find and support their topic.
Before letting the students work on their own, I will make sure that they
have all logged in to the correct account and have PowerPoint open.
Describe how you will check for students understanding before moving on to independent
practice.
I will individually check each students PowerPoint to make sure that they are
heading in the right direction with this project. If I suspect any confusion amongst
any of the students, I will individually go over the information with them again so
that they can move forward and be confident about it.

You Do
(Students engage in independent practice)
Describe what the students will do to independently practice the knowledge and skills
required by the lesson objectives? (this is the post-assessment)

Student Choices- Students will be given the opportunity to find a topic

that they are interested in. They will need to pick a scholarly topic so that
they can form enough information to create a presentation.
Student Inquiry- After the students have found a topic that I approve,
they make use books and educational websites to find more information on.
Collaboration and Teamwork- The class has already been grouped so
they are to work together to use all of their knowledge to create an
educational presentation. They will each be working on their own
computers adding informational that is useful to the topic that they have
chosen.
Public Presentation- When the students are done with their presentation,
they will present it to the class.
Student Reflection- While groups are presenting the students will fill out
a reflection worksheet that will give the students feedback on how they did
and what they can do next time to improve their learning and performance.

APPENDIX: Include a blank copy of your post-assessment.

Is your BLANK COPY of the post-assessment included at the end of this
lesson plan?

Lesson Closing
Describe how you will reemphasize the lesson objective and any
skills/content that were taught in an interactive manner (whole/small
group, etc.).
To reemphasize what was taught in this lesson and to assure that the students
have a good grip on this topic, I will have to students pin their topic and what an
opinion is onto the class Padlet wall. This will allow other students to see what
topics they have chosen and compare their definitions of what an opinion is. With
Padlet, students are able to ask any last minute questions that they might have
without other students knowing who is asking. After all questions are answered, I
will allow the groups to communicate amongst each other and ask each other
questions about what they are doing for the presentations.

ANALYZE
(This portion may only be done after the post assessment is
collected/scored.)
Describe the results of the Post-Assessment and be sure to address the following:
Students progress from pre-to-post assessment. (if applicable)
Factors that may have influenced the post assessment results.
How the results of the post assessment highlight what areas of the
lesson will require re-teaching (if any).
If applicable, insert a table/chart/graph (below) that shows the post-assessment data
results. If you used the same document for both the pre and post assessments, it is strongly
encouraged that you show the comparison.
Insert an image of your table/chart/graph here.

Description:
REFLECT
List and describe two things you feel you did well to plan, implement, or assess instruction
(successes).

List and describe two things you feel were challenges during the planning, implementation
and/or assessment of the lesson.

List and describe two ideas for redesign you would make if you were to teach this lesson
again.
